Week in Review

In Brief:

Jose Hernandez-Romero, 24, was killed in a shooting at El Sauce, a downtown take-out Latin American restaraunt/ bar. Alexis Pineda was arrested and is being held on suspicion of first-degree murder in the case.

Bruce Parker, 47, was shot and killed in Northeast D.C. No arrests have been announced.

The one year anniversary of one of D.C.’s most violent killings was marked with a vigil at the crime scene on South Capitol Street and the introduction of a bill to address youth behavioral health services. The bill, titled the South Capitol Street Tragedy Memorial Act of 2011, would create a comprehensive multi-age city approach to screening and services for mental health in D.C. schools. It’s sponsor, Councilman David Catania said that if approved, it will create a program that replaces a “patchwork” of existing programs that address truancy, behavioral problems, and juvenile delinquency.

Keith Littlepage-El, a 49-year-old D.C. resident accused of killing his girlfriend last month, was ordered held by Superior Court Judge Heidi Pasichow, who detained Littlepage upon the ruling that there is “substantial probability” that he committed the crime. Littlepage is accused of killing Selina Knight in her apartment in early March.

A 17-year-old male has been arrested on suspicion of homicide in the death of Jinnell McQueen in November. McQueen was shot to death in Southeast D.C.

Alfred Evans, a 28 year-old D.C. man, was convicted in the April 2003 murder of Reginald Brighthart, a 35-year-old homeless man.

And, on a personal note, Homicide Watch D.C. marked it’s sixth month of publishing.
