Lonnie Martin Whitted Killed in SE DC Shooting Early Thursday



A Southeast DC man was killed in a shooting early Thursday morning at 18th Street and U Place Southeast, MPD said Thursday night.

They identified the victim as 27-year-old Lonnie Martin Whitted.

Homicide: 18th Street and U Place, SE

(Washington, DC)-Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating the fatal shooting which occurred at 18th Street and U Place, SE.

On Thursday July 7, 2011, at approximately 12:15 am, units from the Sixth District responded to 18th Street and U Place, SE, to investigate the sounds of gunshots. Upon arriving on the scene, officers located an adult male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel transported the victim to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The decedent has been identified as 27 year-old Lonnie Martin Whitted of Southeast, Washington, D.C.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons wanted for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.

If the information provided by the caller to the Crime Solvers Unit leads to an arrest and indictment, that caller will be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
