Sunday Evening Double Shooting Kills One Near Dunbar High

A double shooting near Dunbar High School left one man dead and injured another Sunday evening, the Washington Post and WJLA report.

Earlier today, Homicide Watch reader Que wrote:

I was at the basketball court on N street across from Dunbar yesterday evening. Not even five minutes after leaving and entering my house, I heard sirens, saw flashing lights and the helicopter above. From what the neighbors are saying, two young people were shot near the basketball court, with one not surviving.

The Washington Post reports:

One man was pronounced dead on the scene in what police have ruled a homicide. His name was not released pending notification of relatives.

The second man has been hospitalized with gunshot wounds, police said. Officials did not release information about his condition.

In a message on the Third District listserve last night, Captain Aubrey P. Mongal wrote:

Members of the First District are handling an apparent shooting that occurred in their district where 2 victims were located, one at 4th and M Street and another in the 200 block of N street. Anyone with information relating to this event is encouraged to call 202-727-9099

The shooting was the third homicide of the weekend. A Friday night shooting killed Leonard Bigelow and a Saturday night stabbing killed Karen Jordan.
