Jekwan Dante Smith Arrested in Shooting Death of Isaiah Sheffield

A 20-year-old Southeast D.C. man was arrested today in connection with the fatal shooting of Isaiah Sheffield in Northeast D.C. last month.

Jekwan Dante Smith is suspected of first-degree murder while armed in connection with the case, MPD said.

Arrest Made in the Homicide in the 1100 Block of 21st Street, NE

(Washington, DC)-Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating the fatal shooting which occurred in the1100 block of 21st Street, NE.

On Saturday, September 24, 2011, at approximately 1:45 am, units from the Fifth District responded to the 1100 block of 21st Street, NE for the sounds of gunshots. Upon arriving on the scene, they located an adult male lying on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The decedent has been identified as 24 year-old Isaiah Sheffield, of Northeast, Washington, D.C.

On Thursday, October 20, 2011, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 20-year-old Jekwan Dante Smith of Southeast, DC pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant charging him with First Degree Murder while Armed.
