Court to Address “Admissions” from David Weston in Shooting Death of Jamal Bell

A D.C. Superior Court Judge today scheduled a status hearing in the case of Zachary Sims, a 18-year-old accused of shooting 16-year-old Jamal Bell to death after a graduation party last June.

Sims’ attorney said that David Weston, who was killed in Sept. 2010, made “admissions” regarding the case to at least two other people.

The court will address legal questions related to those statements during a status hearing on March 30.

Sims has been indicted on nine charges associated with the case including one count of first-degree murder, two counts of assault with intent to kill, and various weapons charges. He has pleaded “not guilty.”

Two people in addition to Bell were also injured by gunfire following the June 18, 2010 Go-Go themed party.

Sims’ trial is scheduled for April 23.
