January Attack on Emanuel Campbell Ruled Homicide


A 53-year-old man attacked in Northeast DC in January has died of his injuries and police are now investigating the case as a homicide.

According to a release from MPD, Emanuel Campbell was found in the 2000 block of Maryland Avenue northeast at about 11:45 p.m. on January 17 suffering from head trauma. Campbell died Jan. 31.

No arrests have been announced in connection to the case.

Assault Now Ruled Homicide: 2000 Block of Maryland Avenue, NE

(Washington, DC)-Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating an assault which occurred on Thursday, January 17, 2013 in the 2000 block of Maryland Avenue, NE, which has resulted in a fatality.

On Thursday, Jan 17, 2013, at approximately 11:45 pm, units from the Fifth District responded to the 2000 block of Maryland Avenue, NE, for the report of an unconscious male. Upon arrival, they located an adult male suffering from apparent trauma to the head. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition.

On Thursday, January 31, 2013, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. On Friday, February 1, 2013, an autopsy was conducted on the remains of the decedent at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Based on the injuries of the decedent, the cause of death was determined to be multiple blunt injuries. The manner of death was ruled a homicide.

The decedent is identified as 53-year-old Emanuel Campbell of Northeast, DC.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons wanted for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
