Derrick Scott Identified as Saturday Morning Shooting Victim

A Maryland man has been identified as the victim of a Saturday morning shooting.

Derrick Scott, 30, of Capitol Heights, Md., was found in the 300 block of Parkland Place Southeast, suffering from a gunshot wound around 4:30 a.m. He later died at the hospital.

A second victim who was shot in the 3000 block of Martin Luther King Avenue Southeast around the same time remains hospitalized.

Homicide: 300 Block of Parkland Place, Southeast

(Washington, DC)-Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting which occurred in the 300 block of Parkland Place, Southeast.

On Saturday, July 13, 2013 at approximately 4:29 am, patrol officers from the Seventh District responded to the 3000 block of Martin Luther King Avenue, Southeast for a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they located an adult male, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. A second shooting victim was located in the 300 block of Parkland Place, Southeast, also suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Personnel from DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services transported both shooting victims to area hospitals where they were admitted in critical condition.

The second victim of this shooting, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The remains of the decedent have been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the District of Columbia pending a determination of a cause and manner of death.

The decedent is identified as 30 year-old Derrick Scott of Capitol Heights, Maryland.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons wanted for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
