Men Charged with Murder in Death of Tywayne Thompson

Two men accused in the shooting death of 25-year-old Tywayne Thompson have each been charged with first-degree murder, in addition to armed robbery and conspiracy charges.

Carlos Parks, 18, is charged with three counts of first-degree murder, conspiracy, attempted robbery while armed, and two related weapons charges. While Troy Robinson, 19, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, conspiracy, attempted robbery while armed and three related charges. Both remain held.

Robinson’s defense attorney Kia Sears argued for supervised release awaiting trial, telling the court that the three witnesses who will testify will be refuted by other witnesses.

“They have been indicted by a grand jury for a number of crimes,” said Judge Jennifer Anderson, explaining why she was rejecting their release, “I am not inclined to change their status.”

Thompson was found by police suffering from gunshot wounds shortly after 1 a.m. on June 24 of last year behind the 700 block of 12th Street Southeast. He was transported to the hospital where he later died.

Parks told a witness that he and Robinson shot Thompson after they pretended to be interested in buying Thompson’s scooter, which he was driving, according to arrest documents.

Robinson shot Thompson in the leg, and then Parks told Robinson to “finish him off” to avoid being identified to the police, but Parks shot Thompson after Robinson hesitated, Parks told the witness according to arrest documents.

Another witness told police that Robinson and Parks were arguing about who shot Thompson where, with both saying that they shot Thompson in the legs, but denying that they fired the fatal stomach shot, according to court documents.

Robinson was arrested in August, and Parks was arrested in September.

A status hearing in the case is scheduled for July 30.

The men’s indictments have been added to the post below.
