Sunday Morning Shooting Kills DaShawn Hammonds

A shooting in the 1200 Block of Simms Place Northeast killed 23-year-old DaShawn Hammonds early Sunday morning, according to MPD.

Police officers found Hammonds unconscious and unresponsive at approximately 5:23 a.m. Emergency medical services transported him to a local hospital where succumbed to his injuries.

Homicide: 1200 Block of Simms Place, Northeast

(Washington, DC) – Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide which occurred in the 1200 block of Simms Place, Northeast.

On Sunday, July 6, 2014, at approximately 5:23 am, members from the Fifth District responded to a call for a subject shot in the alley of 1200 block of Simms Place, Northeast. Upon arrival, they located an adult male unconscious and unresponsive. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded and transported the victim to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The decedent was subsequently transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the District of Columbia where an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause and manner of death.

The decedent has been identified as 23-year-old DaShawn Hammonds of Southeast, Washington, DC.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons wanted for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
