Raheem Jones Held in the Shooting Death of Deandria Conyers

Judge Karen Howze ordered 33-year-old Raheem Jones held Thursday on suspicion of second-degree murder in connection to the Sept. 14 shooting death of Deandria Conyers.

Conyers was found shot at approximately 8:48 p.m. in a residence in the 2000 block of Ridgecrest Court Southeast. Arrest documents say that Jones is the father of Conyers’ 4-month-old child.

Jones told detectives that he had past domestic issues with Conyers, including a conversation that day about child support, charging documents say. Jones also said he told Conyers that he was going to her house that day, though he said he didn’t actually go because he thought Conyers “was setting him up.”

In a second interview, Jones provided grocery receipts, facebook photos, and allowed detectives to look through his phone to prove that he did not shoot Conyers.

Jones’ phone showed that at approximately 9:00 a.m. that day, Conyers started sending messages to Jones “expressing her love for him” and telling him “she was going to ruin his relationship” with his partner, documents say.

By approximately 4:30 p.m., the messages suggested that Jones planned to visit Conyers, documents say, as evidenced by questions about bus routes and a message from Jones that read: “Come to the door please.”

Jones explained in an interview that he was “just playing” with Conyers and that he never left his house, documents say.

Cell phone records show that at 4:47 p.m., Jones called Conyers and received cell tower service from a location that was south of Conyer’s apartment, documents say. Then at 4:55 p.m., Jones made another phone call which received service from the same tower.

Charging documents allege that it “would not be possible” for Jones’s phone to register that location if he never left his house.

In an initial interview, a witness told police that it was with Jones during that the entire day. But two days later, the witness said that at approximately 3:35 p.m., the witness left Jones in their apartment to do “several loads” of laundry in the basement.

The witness said that it folded clothes for 20-30 minutes after the dryer finished and remained in the basement the entire time. After that, the witness went directly into the rear courtyard of the building for 20-30 minutes.

In a follow-up interview, the witness told police the laundry took “approximately 45 additional minutes”.

At 5:22 p.m. that day, documents say that Jones messaged Conyers, “Nvm I going home see you in court love you and my daughter forever in a day.”

Twenty-six minutes later, he added, “Awe you probably was waiting for me. I’m not f**king with you. I know that you trying to set me up. Not today babe. My mom ain’t raised no foil. Ur still Mrs Jones in my book. Love you sweetheart.”

Charging documents allege “the two final messages (at 5:22 p.m. and 5:48 p.m.) from Mr. Jones to the decedent clearly indicate he was trying to hide the fact that he ever went to the decedent’s apartment.”

Jones is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Oct. 28 at 9:30 before Judge Jennifer Anderson.
