A man shot last month in Southeast DC has died of his injuries, MPD said Sunday afternoon.
The man, identified as 33-year-old Earnest Jerome McWilliams, was found shot at about 2 a.m. on January 21 in the 4500 block of Benning Road. He was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. He died Saturday.

Police are investigating an early morning shooting in Northeast DC as a homicide, according to messages from Fifth District Commander Dierdre Porter on the community listserv.
The shooting in the 400 block of Florida Avenue, Northeast was reported at about 3:30 a.m. Porter said.

Detra Martin, 48, was killed Thursday night in an residence in Southeast DC. Police say Martin died of stragulation and her death was ruled a homicide on Friday.
Jurors heard opening arguments in the trial charging David and Montez Warren with the May 2011 shooting death of Ervin Lamont Griffin.
The murder trial against Jashua Johnson began Wednesday with Judge Robert Morin. Johnson, 20, is charged with first degree murder and several assault and weapons offenses in connection with the death of 22-year-old Davon Brown. Prosecutors allege that Brown was an innocent bystander the night that he was killed.
The government rested its case in the trial charging Keir Johnson and Lester Williams with the shooting death of 21-year-old Jamal Coates. Defense attorneys for Johnson and Williams have begun presenting evidence on behalf of their clients.
Jamar George pleaded guilty to second-degree murder while armed in connection with the connection to the murder of 20-year-old Ronnie Speight Jr. George is scheduled for sentencing on April 25.
Grant Johnson was sentenced to 49 years in prison after being convicted of first-degree premeditated murder while armed, second-degree murder while armed, armed robbery and related weapons offenses in connection with the shooting death of Ricardo Mandrell Lancaster. Johnson has said that he intends to file an appeal of his conviction.
Jeffrey Mills was sentenced to 18 years in prison in connection with the beating death of Juan Antonio Paredes on January 15, 2012. At the sentencing hearing, Mills gave his condolences to Paredes’ crying mother and said he was acting in self-defense.
Anthony Campbell and Phillip Glover pleaded innocent to charges in connection with the death of Antwain Henderson. Campbell is charged with first-degree murder and remains held. Glover is charged with accessory after the fact in Henderson’s death and tampering with evidence. He remains on supervised release.

Antwain Henderson‘s body was found in the trunk of his own burning car in 2011. On Friday, two of three men charged in connection with his death were indicted before Judge John Ramsey Johnson. Two of them remain behind bars where they await trial this October.
This indictment is the second delivered by a grand jury in the case; the second indictment adds charges from a grand jury for Jermaine Livingston.
Anthony Campbell, 34, remains in custody. Campbell pleaded not guilty to first degree murder, tampering with evidence and other related weapon offenses. Campbell is allegedly responsible for shooting 34-year-old Henderson in the head.

Kevin McDarin Johnson, 51, was arrested Friday evening on suspicion of second-degree murder in the death of Detra Martin.
Martin, 48, died at a local hospital after being found unconscious in the 800 block of Southern Avenue Southeast. A medical examiner found that she died of “asphyxia due to strangulation” and ruled her death a homicide.

Before he was sentenced Friday to 49 years in prison, Grant Johnson spoke at length about how prosecutors vilified him. Then Johnson turned to Ricardo Mandrell Lancaster‘s mother and told her, “I swear to you, I did not kill your son.”
Iris Moore, Lancaster’s mother, stood feet away and pleaded for a merciful sentence for Johnson, a man that she has called her son.
“I have chosen to retain the love I have for him, because I can’t live with hate in my heart,” Moore said. Later she added, “I don’t know what went wrong. I can’t undo it.”

Jeffrey Mills was sentenced to 18 years for beating Juan Antonio Paredes to death with a barbell in 2012. A jury convicted Mills, 52, of voluntary manslaughter in November.
“His conduct was inexcusable,” Judge John Ramsey Johnson said at the sentencing. “I think Mr. Mills was angry that day and he took out his anger on poor Mr. Paredes.”

Jamar George, 27 pleaded guilty Friday to second-degree murder while armed in connection to the murder of 20-year-old Ronnie Speight Jr.
George admitted to the fatal shooting of Speight in an alley of the 5100 block of Jay Street NE on May 26, 2011.
“Yeah, that’s what happened,” George said at Friday’s hearing.
