During a press conference Friday, acting MPD Captain Anthony Haythe said that the shooting that killed Ronnetta Hurley-Brown and Ervin Phillip Ingrahamwas probably “targeted” and not a random act.
Brown and Ingraham were found dead Thursday night after being shot in a rowhouse in the 1600 block of 17th Street, Southeast. On Friday, Haythe confirmed that Brown and Ingraham lived at the apartment. He also confirmed that two children were also found at the house, both “under five years old.”

Richard Williams was sentenced Friday to 35 years in prison in connection with the stabbing death of Sean West in 2010.
Williams was found guilty of second-degree murder in the case in December.

A grand jury has charged Jermaine Livingston, suspected in the 2011 shooting death of 34-year-old Antwain Henderson, with being an accessory after the fact in Henderson’s death and tampering with evidence.
Livingston, 41, pleaded innocent to both charges. He was arrested in May 2013 on a charge of second-degree murder but has not been charged with that crime.

A man and a woman who died Thursday night after being shot in a rowhouse at 1600 block of 17th Street, Southeast have been identified by police.
Ervin Phillip Ingraham, 21, and Ronnetta Hurley-Brown, 21, were both pronounced dead at the scene.
Reports indicate that two toddlers were found apparently unharmed inside the home with Hurley-Brown and Ingraham and since have been placed in protective custody.
It is the second double-homicide involving a man and a woman in a DC home this month. Last week, Oluremi Thomas, 36, and Keyonna Proctor, 24, were found shot to death in a home on Girard Street Northwest.

A man and woman were found dead inside a Southeast DC row house just before 4 p.m. Thursday, according to multiple reports. Two toddlers were also inside the home, apparently unharmed, and have been placed in protective custody.
Police have not yet called this a homicide, but there is evidence of trauma, WJLA reports:
“There appears there is some trauma,” said D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier. “I don’t know if this could be a murder-suicide, or if this could be something different…We really just don’t know.”

The right side of the courtroom was crowded with “Justice for Darius” t-shirts, worn by the family members and friends of 16-year-old Darius Cannon, who was killed in a Southeast DC shooting last April.
Dion Redwood, 39, is being charged with first-degree murder in connection with Cannon’s death. Redwood appeared in court today for a preliminary hearing before Judge Rhonda Winston, who recessed the hearing after less than an hour of testimony.

A judge found Lillian Alvarado incompetent to stand trial for the death of her newborn son after an initial mental competency hearing Wednesday.
Alvarado, 21, will be held at St. Elizabeths psychiatric hospital. Read more
Bernard Fleming pleaded innocent Tuesday to a 12-count indictment charging him with the 2012 shooting death of 30-year-old Michael Edward Jones.
Fleming, 23, is the third suspect arrested in connection with Jones’ death. He remains held pending a Friday hearing scheduled for the case.
