Two men arraigned for murder of Antwain Henderson

Antwain Henderson's body was found in the trunk of his own burning car in 2011. On Friday, two of three men charged in connection with his death were indicted before Judge John Ramsey Johnson. Two of them remain behind bars where they await trial this October.

This indictment is the second delivered by a grand jury in the case; the second indictment adds charges from a grand jury for Jermaine Livingston.

Anthony Campbell, 34, remains in custody. Campbell pleaded not guilty to first degree murder, tampering with evidence and other related weapon offenses. Campbell is allegedly responsible for shooting 34-year-old Henderson in the head.

Phillip Glover, 31, pleaded not guilty today to one count of accessory after the fact and one count of tampering with physical evidence. He is the only one of the three men indicted who is not incarcerated and on release under high intensity supervision.

Livingston, 41, has the same charges as Glover but was denied release Friday. Livingston was arraigned in late January.

Charging documents state that on August 31, 2011, police responded to a gunshot near the 5800 block of Field Place Northeast.

According to police, a witness saw Campbell shoot Henderson in the head following an argument in the backyard of Campbell's mother's house.

When Livingston, who was inside the residence, noticed the police in front of the home, he went out back to warn Campbell. Livingston then helped Campbell drag Henderson, who was still breathing, into the house where they kept his body for an hour while police scanned the area, documents say.

The witness then helped Livingston and Campbell clean up Henderson's blood, put him inside trash bags and then carried his body outside to the trunk of Henderson's own car, according to court records. The witness said that at that time Henderson was "unconscious and making no noises."

Campbell then asked Glover, another co-defendant in the case, to tow Henderson's vehicle to Maryland. The car was later found engulfed in flames, with Henderson's body in the trunk.

Judge Johnson said he denied Livingston release Friday because, "The time of death still needs to be ironed out." A trial date is set for October 27.

Grand Jury Indicts Jermaine Livingston on Charges of Accessory, Tampering, But Not Murder

A grand jury has charged Jermaine Livingston, suspected in the 2011 shooting death of 34-year-old Antwain Henderson, with being an accessory after the fact in Henderson's death and tampering with evidence.

Livingston, 41, pleaded innocent to both charges. He was arrested in May 2013 on a charge of second-degree murder but has not been charged with that crime.

Daniel Quillin, Livingston’s defense attorney, argued Friday that the indictment represented less serious charges than those Livingston initially faced and that as a result the court should consider releasing Livingston from custody.

Judge John Ramsey Johnson noted the charges were "still serious" and recommended Quillen file a formal motion with the court.

Anthony Campbell and Phillip Glover are also charged in connection with Henderson's death.

Police found Henderson dead in a burning car in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Authorities believe that he was shot and killed in Northeast D.C. in the early morning of Aug. 31, 2011.

Charging documents allege that Livingston helped move and hide Henderson’s body from police shortly after he was shot August 31, 2011.

During a preliminary hearing held in June 2013, Metropolitan Police Detective Gabriel Truby testified that a witness saw Campbell shoot Henderson in the head following an argument in the backyard of Campbell’s mother’s house. Judge Finds Substantial Probabilty that Jermaine Livingston Assisted in Antwain Henderson Murder

Judge John Ramsey Johnson found substantial probability Friday that Jermaine Livingston participated in the August 2011 shooting death of 34-year-old Antwain Henderson. Livingston, 41, is the latest of four suspects charged in connection with Henderson's death; he remains held on a charge of second-degree murder while armed.

Charging documents in the case say Livingston helped move and hide Henderson's body from police shortly after he was shot August 31, 2011. The preliminary hearing Friday centered around whether Henderson was alive when his body was dragged into a residential basement by Livingston and co-defendant Anthony Campbell.

Metropolitan Police Detective Gabriel Truby testified Friday that a witness saw Campbell shoot Henderson in the head following an argument in the backyard of Campbell's mother's house.

Upon seeing police in the front of the home, Livingston, who was inside the house when the shooting occurred, went out back to warn Campbell. Livingston then helped Campbell drag Henderson, who was still breathing, into the house where they kept his body for an hour while police scanned the area. The witness said that Henderson was making "snoring" noises at the time his body was dragged into the basement, Truby testified.

The witness then helped Livingston and Campbell clean up Henderson's blood and they carried the body outside and put it in the trunk of his own car. The witness said that at that time Henderson was "unconscious and making no noises."

Campbell then asked Phillip Glover, another co-defendant in the case, to tow Henderson's vehicle to Maryland. The car was later found engulfed in flames, with Henderson's body in the trunk.

Daniel Quillin, Livingston's defense attorney, argued that Henderson was already dead when his client helped dispose of the body, and that Livingston merely acted as an accessory after the murder.

"We don't have medical proof that says the decedent was unconscious or dead before my client got to him," Quillin said.

Prosecutors, though, believe Henderson was alive while police were canvassing the area.

"The decedent was kept in the house for an hour after the shooting, and the witness heard him snoring," Wheeler said. "Snoring proves he was alive."

Livingston is scheduled for a felony status conference July 12.

Judge Orders Jermaine Livingston Held for Participation in Antwain Henderson Murder

Judge Karen Howze found probable cause Wednesday that Jermaine Livingston participated in the 2011 shooting death of 34-year-old Antwain Henderson. Livingston, 41, was arrested Tuesday morning and remains held pending a preliminary hearing next week.

Livingston is the fourth suspect to be arrested in connection with Henderson's death.

Henderson’s body was found inside a burning vehicle in the 800 block of Balsamtree Place, Capitol Heights, Md, in the early morning hours of August 31, 2011. Police later determined that he had been shot and killed in the 5800 block of Field Place in Northeast D.C.

Arrest documents say witnesses told detectives that Anthony Campbell shot and killed Henderson because he was angry that Henderson told people that Campbell was an informant on a charge Henderson was convicted of in 2003.

According to witnesses, Henderson and Campbell were having an argument outside Campbell’s mother’s house in Northeast D.C. around 1:30 a.m. Aug. 31 when Campbell pulled a gun from his waistband and shot Henderson in the head. Arrest documents say that when police responded to the sound of gunshots near Campbell’s home, Livingston and Campbell dragged Henderson's body to the basement, where it stayed for at least an hour, before being tossed in the trunk of Henderson's vehicle.

Witnesses say that Phillip Glover then assisted Campbell in towing Henderson's car to Maryland where it was set on fire.

Documents say that in 2012, while incarcerated in Prince George's County, Livingston spoke with detectives and told them that he was inside Campbell’s residence in the 5800 block of Field Place the morning of the shooting, but did not have knowledge of Henderson's murder.

Judge Howze scheduled a preliminary hearing for May 24.

Fourth Suspect Arrested In Connection with 2011 Antwain Henderson Murder

A Southeast D.C. man was arrested Tuesday morning in connection with the 2011 shooting death of 34-year-old Antwain Henderson of Capitol Heights, Md.

Prince George’s County Fire Department found Henderson's body inside a burning vehicle in the 800 block of Balsamtree Place, Capitol Heights, in the early morning hours of August 31, 2011.

The investigation of Henderson's death was turned over to Metropolitan Police after it was determined that he was shot and killed in the 5800 block of Field Place Northeast three hours prior.

Over the course of the following year, three people were arrested and charged in connection with Henderson's murder: Anthony Campbell, Phillip Glover and Sean Hawkins.

Jermaine Livingston, the fourth suspect, was arrested Tuesday morning; he will likely be presented with a charge of second-degree murder in connection with Henderson's death this week.

Additional Arrest Made in the Fatal Shooting in the 5800 Block of Field Place, NE

(Washington, DC)-Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch have announced that an additional arrest has been made in the fatal shooting which occurred in the 5800 block of Field Place, NE.

At approximately 4:40 am, on Wednesday, August 31, 2011, Prince George’s County Fire Department responded to the 800 block of Balsamtree Place, Capitol Heights, MD for a vehicle fire. Once the fire was extinguished a body was discovered inside the vehicle. The decedent was pronounced dead on the scene by Prince George’s County Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel.

An investigation into this homicide was conducted by members of the Prince George’s County Homicide Unit. Through investigative processes they notified the Metropolitan Police Department Homicide Branch the murder may have occurred in DC. The investigation determined that the decedent was shot and killed in the 5800 block of Field Place, NE, on August 31, 2011, at 1:38 am. This resulted in the Metropolitan Police Department assuming full investigative responsibility.

The decedent has been identified as 34-year-old Antwain Henderson of Capitol Heights, MD.

On Thursday, June 14, 2012, an adult male was arrested and charged pursuant to an arrest warrant with Second Degree Murder in the shooting death of Antwain Henderson.

On Friday, July 13, 2012, an adult male was arrested and charged pursuant to an arrest warrant with First Degree Murder in the connection to the shooting death of Antwain Henderson.

On August 31, 2012 at approximately 6:40 am, an adult male was arrested pursuant to an arrest warrant and charged with Conspiracy to Obstruct Justice in the shooting death of Antwain Henderson.

On Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at approximately 9:00 am, 41-year-old Jermaine Livingston of Southeast, DC was arrested pursuant to an arrest warrant and charged with Second Degree Murder in the shooting death of Antwain Henderson.

Anthony Campbell was indicted Wednesday on a charge of first-degree murder while armed in connection with the death of Antwain Henderson. Campbell was also charged with evidence tampering and two firearms offenses in the case; he pled innocent to all charges Friday.

Prosecutors allege that Campbell shot and killed Henderson on Aug. 31, 2011, because he was angry that Henderson told people that Campbell was an informant on a charge that Henderson was convicted of in 2003.

A Metropolitan Police detective testified last year that witnesses reported that Henderson and Campbell were having an argument outside Campbell’s mother’s house in Northeast D.C. As Henderson turned to walk away, Campbell shot him in the head. Arrest documents state that Henderson’s body was then brought into the house. Police found Henderson’s blood in the basement, the detective said.

Co-defendant, Phillip Glover, is alleged to have assisted Campbell in transporting Henderson's body to Maryland in a vehicle which they then set on fire, according to the indictment.

A status hearing has been scheduled for May 24.

Judge Denies Request to Release Anthony Campbell

Judge William Jackson turned down a request Friday to place Anthony Campbell on supervised release pending a grand jury indictment.

Campbell, 34, is suspected of killing Antwain Henderson. Prosecutors say Campbell shot Henderson in the head after an argument in August 2011 and then took Henderson's body to Prince George's County, where he burned it in a car.

Campbell has been in custody at the D.C. jail since his arrest July 13.

An MPD detective testified at a preliminary hearing in July that investigators believe Campbell thought Henderson had been a government informant in a 2003 shooting.

Campbell's attorney, Brian McDaniel, argued that Campbell could be released to live at his fiance or father's home and monitored through a Global Positioning System device.

Campbell was employed at the time of his arrest and has four children, McDaniel said.

Jackson said he wasn't comfortable granting the request, but expected prosecutors to return an indictment by Campbell's next status hearing.

"In terms of the weight of the evidence, I don't think anything has changed," Jackson said, adding he thought that if anything, prosecutors' case against Campbell was growing stronger.

Campbell is due back in court Feb. 22.

Substantial Probability Found in Antwain Henderson Murder Case

Judge William Jackson found substantial probability in the case against Anthony Campbell today, saying that although there were "certain oddities" about the case there was enough evidence to send the first-degree murder charge to the grand jury.

Campbell, 34, is suspected of shooting Antwain Henderson in the head following an argument, then taking his body to Prince George's County and burning it in a car.

Charging documents in the case state that a 2003 shooting, for which Henderson served six years in prison, may have been at the heart of the disagreement between the men. Detective Gabriel Truby said Friday that Henderson and Campbell, long time friends, were both involved in that shooting which left one man dead and injured Campbell. Henderson and Campbell were not shooting at each other, Truby said.

When Henderson was convicted in the shooting, he suspected that Campbell had been a government informant in the case. Truby said that the two hung out together after Henderson was released. Charging documents state that Henderson was also telling people that Campbell was "hot," meaning a government witness.

At the preliminary hearing Friday, Truby said that witnesses told police that Henderson and Campbell were having an argument outside Campbell’s mother’s house in Northeast DC. As Henderson turned to walk away, Campbell shot him in the head. Charging documents state that Henderson's body was brought into the house. Truby said Friday that Henderson's blood was found in the basement.

Campbell's defense attorney argued Friday that there was enough evidence to suggest that Campbell could have been shooting in self defense. Campbell, knowing that Henderson had served time for a shooting, and possibly aware that Henderson was armed, could have been fearful that Henderson was turning to reach for his gun instead of turning to leave, his attorney, Samuel Bogash, said.

Bogash also said there were resonable explanations for Henderson's blood being in the basement; because he was frequently at the house it is possible that he could have cut himself shaving in the basement, or doing another task, Bogash said.

Jackson rejected those arguments and ordered that Campbell be held on the charge while the grand jury investigates. A hearing on the status of the case is set for Dec. 14.

2003 Shooting May Have Been at Root of Antwain Henderson Homicide

A man police have charged with first-degree murder was shot by the victim in 2003 and may have provided information to police about that shooting.

That's according to charging documents presented to Anthony Campbell on Saturday. Prosecutors say that in Aug. 2011, Campbell shot Antwain Henderson, then towed Henderson's body in his car to PG County and burned it.

Charging documents state that Henderson had shot Campbell in 2003 and that Henderson believed that Campbell had provided police with some of the information used to convict him of voluntary manslaughter in connection with the case.

Campbell is the second person arrested in connection with the case. Sean Donnelle Hawkins was arrested in June. Another man named in Campbell's charging documents is currently in custody in Maryland on a charge of first-degree murder.

According to charging documents in the cases, Hawkins told police that he was present when Campbell shot Henderson outside Campbell's mother’s house in Northeast DC. The house was not lived in, but was used as storage for illegal narcotics and weapons, charging documents state.

Hawkins also told police that after the shooting he helped Campbell move Henderson indoors. According to the charging documents, Hawkins said that when Henderson stopped breathing he helped cleaned him up and put him in the trunk of Henderson’s car.

When Hawkins and Campbell could not find Henderson’s car keys, Campbell called someone with a tow truck and had the car, with Henderson in the trunk, towed to Maryland. Members of Prince George’s County Fire Department found the burning car and body later that day in Capitol Heights Md, according to charging documents.

According to charging documents, Campbell may have believed that Henderson was telling people that Campbell was "hot," meaning that he cooperated with law enforcement.

The charging documents state that Henderson shot Campbell, and others, in 2003. He was charged with second-degree murder in connection with the shooting, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, and was sentenced to six years. A witness in the case told police that Campbell overheard Henderson telling people that Campbell had testified against him as a government witness.

Campbell is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on July 26. Hawkins is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on July 20.

Anthony Campbell Arrested in Shooting, Burning Death of Capitol Heights Man

Anthony Campbell, a Northeast DC man, was arrested Friday on suspicion of first-degree murder in connection with the Aug. 2011 shooting death of Antwain Henderson.

Campbell is the second man arrested in connection with Henderson's death; Sean Donnelle Hawkins was arrested in June on suspicion of second-degree murder in connection with the case.

According to charging documents in the case, Hawkins told police that he was present when a co-defendant, identified only as "Ozzie,” shot Henderson outside Ozzie’s mother’s house in Northeast DC.

Hawkins also told police that after the shooting he helped “Ozzie” move Henderson indoors. According to the charging documents, Hawkins said that when Henderson stopped breathing he helped cleaned him up and put him in the trunk of Henderson’s car.

When Hawkins and “Ozzie” could not find Henderson’s car keys, “Ozzie” called someone with a tow truck and had the car, with Henderson in the trunk, towed to Maryland. Members of Prince George’s County Fire Department found the burning car and body later that day in Capitol Heights Md, according to charging documents.

It was not immediately clear whether or not Campbell is "Ozzie" or another person police believe is connected to the case.

Campbell was presented with the charge Saturday and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for July 26. Hawkins is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on July 20.
