Antonio Williams | Homicide Watch DChttp://homicidewatch.org/suspects/antonio-williams/Latest news about Antonio Williamsen-usFri, 13 Jun 2014 14:22:46 -0400Antonio Williams Sentenced to 4 Years, 2 Months for Death of Andre McIntyrehttp://homicidewatch.org/2014/06/13/antonio-williams-sentenced-to-4-years-2-months-for-death-of-andre-mcintyre/<p>Before he was sentenced to more than four years in prison, <a href="http://homicidewatch.org/suspects/antonio-williams/">Antonio Williams</a> turned to face <a href="http://homicidewatch.org/victims/andre-mcintyre/">Andre McIntyre's</a> family and told them he "practiced and practiced" what he was going to say.</p> <p>"But it ain't coming together right," Williams said, "Because I'm looking at y'all and I see pain in y'all's eyes."</p> <p>On March 1, 2014, just after midnight, <a href="http://homicidewatch.org/2014/03/01/sixth-homicide-victim-in-dc-since-thursday-night-andre-mcintyre/">police officers found</a> McIntryre unconscious and bleeding from a head wound. Prosecutors said that Williams punched McIntyre that night because McIntyre owed him money.<br /> <span id="more-23298"></span><br /> In court Friday, Williams said that he had also lost loved ones to violence and apologized, though he added, "There's nothing I can say that's going to help right now."</p> <p>Williams <a href="http://homicidewatch.org/2014/04/15/antonio-williams-pleads-guilty-in-connection-with-death-of-andre-mcintyre/">pleaded guilty</a> to involuntary manslaughter nearly six weeks after McIntyre's death. </p> <p>Prosecutors and defense attorneys agreed that it was one of the quickest plea agreements that either party had entered. </p> <p>Assistant U.S. Attorney Reagan Taylor noted that though Williams appeared "ready to accept responsibility," McIntyre's family was still having "a hard time accepting and understanding" the charge of involuntary manslaughter in the case.</p> <p>Defense attorney Anthony Matthews said that he did not "endorse" or "recommend" the quick plea to his client. </p> <p>Judge Jennifer Anderson told the court that she "struggled mightily" to determine a fair sentence, noting that though Williams seemed remorseful, he did "sucker punch [McIntyre] very hard, all over a small amount of money."</p> <p>But outside the courtroom, McIntyre's family expressed their disappointment and anger over the length of the sentence. </p> <p>"Not enough time," said one family member. But Judge Jennifer Anderson decided not to accept William's plea until McIntyre’s family can speak in court for William's sentencing on June 13. </p> <p>Williams was <a href="http://homicidewatch.org/2014/03/31/antonio-williams-held-in-connection-with-death-of-andre-mcintyre/">charged with second-degree murder</a> in the case. Prosecutors have agreed to drop the charge and will recommend a prison sentence between three and five years in exchange for William's plea.<br /> <span id="more-22294"></span><br /> Emergency personnel found McIntyre bleeding from a head wound and unconscious near the <a href="http://homicidewatch.org/2014/03/01/sixth-homicide-victim-in-dc-since-thursday-night-andre-mcintyre/">300 block of Ridge Road Southeast</a> just after midnight on March 1. He was transported to the hospital where he later died.</p> <p>Prosecutors said that they could have proved that Williams argued with McIntyre that night and punched him, causing McIntyre to fall and hit his head on the ground.</p> <p>Two witnesses described McIntyre as being in debt to Williams over drugs and money before the argument, <a href="http://homicidewatch.org/2014/03/31/antonio-williams-held-in-connection-with-death-of-andre-mcintyre/">according to charging documents</a>. </p> <p>One witness said that Williams left the scene and returned when police and paramedics were on scene and asked, “Is Dre alright?” according to the plea agreement.</p> <p>Paramedics were unsure if McIntyre had been shot in the head, but the cause of death was later ruled blunt force trauma, according plea documents.</p> <p>Judge Anderson asked Williams if the facts presented in the plea agreement were accurate, to which Williams responded, “Yeah, that’s basically what happened.”</p> <p><strong>***Correction: An earlier version of this story misstated the severity of the charge that Williams pleaded to. Upon their arrival, members located an adult male suffering from apparent trauma to his head. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
