15 Year Sentence in the Death of Roshaine Henry

Corey Saxton was sentenced to 15 years Friday for the death of Roshaine Henry on March 5, 2014.

Saxton pleaded guilty in May to voluntary manslaughter for fatally shooting Henry after trying to rob him at gun point.

Police found Henry, 24, the night of March 5, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest in the 900 block of Madison Street Northwest. He later died at a local hospital, due to his injuries.

Court documents say Saxton got into Henry's car to negotiate a drug deal at approximately 7:30 p.m. An eyewitness told police they heard Saxton say, "Don't move," and then heard one or two gunshots.

In an attempt to drive away when Saxton fired, Henry crashed into a number of parked cars between the 1200 and 900 Block of Madison Street Northwest, according to prosecutors. Henry's car was found flipped over and his body in the backseat.

At the time of the shooting, Saxton was on probation, with a condition that he wear a GPS tracking unit. GPS records showed that he was in the same area of the shooting when it occurred and that he immediately left the area after the shooting, according to police.

Corey Saxton pleaded guilty Friday to voluntary manslaughter for fatally shooting Roshaine Henry after trying to rob him at gun point.

Henry, 24, was found on March 5, in the 900 block of Madison Street Northwest suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest. Henry was taken to Medstar Hospital where he later died of his injuries.

According to court documents at approximately 7:30 p.m., Saxton got into Henry’s car to negotiate a drug deal. An eye-witness told police they heard Saxton say, “Don’t move,” and then heard one or two gunshots.

According to the factual proffer read by Assistant U.S. Attorney Magdalena Acevedo on Friday, Saxton agreed to meet Henry at the 1200 block of Madison Street Northwest to purchase marijuana. Saxton briefly went inside Henry's vehicle then exited to "talk to his people," according Acevedo. Saxton came back 15 minutes later opened the passenger side door of Henry's car and pointed a gun to Henry's head, demanding he hand over all his drugs.

Prosecutors said Henry tried to drive away when Saxton fired, causing him to crash his vehicle into several parked cars between the 1200 and 900 Block of Madison Street Northwest. Henry's car was found flipped over and his body in the backseat.

At the time of the shooting, Saxton was on probation with the condition that he wear a GPS tracking unit. Records from the GPS unit indicate that he was in the exact area of the shooting when it occurred and that he left the area immediately after the shooting, according to police.

Saxton was arrested five days after the incident on suspicion of second degree murder.

Saxton faces five to thirty years in prison for voluntary manslaughter. Judge John Ramsey Jonson will decide his sentence on July 18 at 10 a.m. in courtroom 302.

Corey Saxton Held in Shooting Death of Roshaine Henry

Corey Saxton was ordered held Tuesday on a charge of second-degree murder; police say he shot Roshaine Henry last Wednesday while being monitored by a court ordered GPS tracking device.

Saxton, a 20-year-old from Northwest DC, is expected back in court March 28 for a preliminary hearing in the case.

Henry was found shot just before 8 p.m. on March 5 in the backseat of a car in the 900 Block of Madison Street Northwest. Henry was brought to the Medstar Hospital with a chest wound. He later died.

Charging documents rely on the testimony of a witness who said that the night of the shooting, Saxton got into Henry’s car in the 1200 Block of Madison Street NW to negotiate a drug deal. The witness said they heard Saxton say, “Don’t move,” and then heard one or two gunshots.

After the shooting, Henry drove several blocks, possibly hitting someone, before rolling his car at least once. He hit several parked cars and ended up in the backseat of his car, police said.

Saxton was on probation with the condition that he wear a GPS tracking unit when Henry was shot. Records from the GPS unit indicate that he was in the exact area of the shooting when it occurred and that he left the area immediately after the shooting, according to police.

Saxton told police that he was two or three blocks away from the shooting and didn’t hear any gunshots. He said that he was informed of a car accident and went to that scene for about 10 minutes, according to police.

A 20-year-old Northwest D.C. man was arrested Monday in connection with the shooting death of Roshaine Henry last Wednesday.

The man, identified by police as Corey Saxton, is suspected of second-degree murder while armed.

On March 5, Henry was found inside a crashed car suffering from a gunshot wound in the 900 block of Madison Street, Northwest. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

MPD later determined that the homicide happened blocks away, in the 1200 block of Madison Street, Northwest.

Arrest in Homicide: 1200 Block of Madison Street, Northwest

(Washington, DC) – Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch have announced an arrest in the homicide which occurred in the 1200 block of Madison Street, Northwest.

On Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at approximately 7:51 pm, police officers from the Fourth Patrol District responded to a call for the report of a vehicular accident in the 900 block of Madison Street, Northwest. Upon arrival, they located an adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound inside the vehicle in the 900 block of Madison Street, Northwest. After a comprehensive investigation, it was established that the offense occurred in the 1200 block of Madison Street, Northwest. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The decedent was subsequently transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner where an autopsy will be performed to ascertain cause and manner of death.

The decedent has been identified as 24 year-old Roshaine Henry of an unknown address.

On March 10, 2014, at approximately 6:15 am, 20 year-old Corey Saxton of NW, Washington, DC was arrested by members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant charging him with Second Degree Murder While Armed in connection with the homicide of Roshaine Henry.
