Prosecutors cited cellphone records, a witness identification, and an alibi Tapp gave to police the night of the shooting they believed was false.

Prosecutors had maintained that after an Ivy City neighborhood block party May 11, 2011 at approximately 1:00 a.m., “Goo” and five or six other people were standing in a parking lot near the location of the shooting. Two witnesses identified Tapp as wearing a black hoodie near the scene of the crime and said they observed him shooting and running from the scene after Anderson was hit. Both witnesses identified Tapp from pictures, according to charging documents.

Other witnesses, though, gave completely different physical descriptions of the shooter. Some were unable to identify Tapp from the series of photographs.

Officers found 11 cartridge casings on the street near Anderson’s body and a Shotspotter system detected two sets of gunshot sounds during the time of the murder.

No other suspects have been arrested in connection with Anderson's death.
Vanya MehtaWed, 23 Jan 2013 14:01:31 -0500http://homicidewatch.org/2013/01/23/murder-charges-dropped-against-marc-tapp-in-jermaine-anderson-killing/Jermaine AndersonMarc Tapp"There were guns going this way and guns going this way," Prosecutor says of Jermaine Anderson Slayinghttp://homicidewatch.org/2011/08/19/there-were-guns-going-this-way-and-guns-going-this-way-prosecutor-says-of-jermaine-andersons-slaying/
Acknowledging that the murder case against a Columbia Heights YouTube rapper known as "Goo" was "complicated," Judge Ronna Beck today still found probable cause that that man, Marc Tapp, was involved in the shooting that left a teen dead last spring.

Beck said she made her decision based on evidence that included cell phone records, an identification of Tapp by a witness, and a false alibi Tapp gave police for the night of the shooting.

Tapp is suspected of killing 19-year-old Jermaine Anderson at "Ivy City Day" in May.

At the preliminary hearing Friday, prosecutor Jennifer Kerkhof called the crime scene "chaotic."

"There were guns going this way and guns going this way," she said pointing in opposite directions. "And there was shooting across the street... At the minimum [Tapp] was a participant in the shooting."

Later she added that the government believes there is probable cause to believe that Tapp fired the shot that struck Anderson in the head and killed him.

In making her ruling, Beck ordered Tapp held at least until his next court hearing, scheduled for Nov. 1.

Charging documents in the case are below.

Laura AmicoFri, 19 Aug 2011 16:42:16 -0400http://homicidewatch.org/2011/08/19/there-were-guns-going-this-way-and-guns-going-this-way-prosecutor-says-of-jermaine-andersons-slaying/Jermaine AndersonMarc TappMurder Charge for YouTube Rapper in Ivy City Day Shootinghttp://homicidewatch.org/2011/08/04/murder-charge-for-youtube-rapper-in-ivy-city-day-shooting/
A 22-year-old YouTube rapper was presented with a first-degree murder charge today at D.C. Superior Court, with prosecutors alleging that he shot and killed a 19-year-old at a neighborhood cookout last spring.

Marc Tapp, a Columbia Heights resident known as "Goo", is suspected in the shooting death of Jermaine Anderson at "Ivy City Day" in May.

Charging documents allege that Tapp and Anderson were both present at an Ivy City Day on May 8, despite the fact that neither man lived in Ivy City.

Anderson was shot just after 1 a.m. and died that same day. He was struck once in the head, charging documents say.

Tapp was identified as a shooter in the case by descriptions from two witnesses, authorities said. Prosecutors are also relying on cell phone records to show that Tapp lied to authorities when he told them that he wasn't in Ivy City at the time of the cookout.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Aug. 18 at 9:30 a.m.

Charging documents in the case are below.

Laura AmicoThu, 04 Aug 2011 17:03:09 -0400http://homicidewatch.org/2011/08/04/murder-charge-for-youtube-rapper-in-ivy-city-day-shooting/Jermaine AndersonMarc TappMarc Terrence Tapp Arrested in Jermaine Anderson Killinghttp://homicidewatch.org/2011/08/04/marc-terrence-tapp-arrested-in-jermaine-anderson-killing/
A 22-year-old Northwest DC man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Jermaine Anderson, MPD said this morning.

Marc Terrence Tapp is expected to be charged with first-degree murder while armed.

MPD's press release is after the jump.

August 4, 2011

Arrest Made in the Homicide of Jermaine Anderson

(Washington, DC)-Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch have announced that an arrest has been made in the fatal shooting of 19 year-old Jermaine Anderson.

On Sunday, May 8, 2011, at approximately 1:00 am, units from the Fifth District responded to the 1800 block of Central Place, NE for the sounds of gunshots.
