Guilty Plea in Fatal NE DC Homeless Shelter Stabbing

Reginald Green pled guilty to voluntary manslaughter while armed in the stabbing death of Alfonza Flythe at what was supposed to be his preliminary hearing on Friday.

According to charging documents, witnesses told police that Green and Flythe fought, shoving each other, on the day of the murder, in the cafeteria of a NE homeless shelter.

The argument continued outside, where Flythe punched Green in the face, and Green stabbed Flythe in the chest, killing him, the charging documents allege.

In a statement to police, Green said he and Flythe knew each other from the shelter and that he “knew how to push [Flythe’s] buttons.”

The plea came as a result of an agreement made between the government and Green and his attorney. The government agreed to drop all other charges relating to the incident.

Before Judge William Jackson accepted the plea he had the prosecuting attorney read the arguments he would have made, had the case gone to trial.

After the reading Jackson asked Green if the arguments the prosecutor had made were true. Green rolled his eyes and looked around the courtroom for a moment before answering yes.

Green is scheduled for sentencing on August 3.

Fatal Friday Stabbing Began with Fight Inside Homeless Shelter

A stabbing that left a man dead on New York Avenue NE Friday morning began with an argument inside the cafeteria of a nearby homeless shelter.

That's according to court documents filed in the case over the weekend.

According to the documents, witnesses told police that Reginald Green and Alfonza Flythe fought, shoving each other, mid-morning Friday in the cafeteria.

The argument continued outside, where Flythe punched Green in the face, and Green stabbed Flythe in the chest, killing him, the charging documents allege.

In a statement to police, Green said he and Flythe knew each other from the shelter and that he "knew how to push [Flythe's] buttons."

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 14.

Reginald Edward Green Arrested in Fatal Friday Morning Stabbing

UPDATE Friday, 10:47 p.m: MPD has identified the victim in this case as 35-year-old Alfonza Flythe of Northeast, DC.

A man fatally stabbed Friday morning on New York Avenue Northeast has not been identified, but MPD says that 25-year-old Reginald Edward Green has been arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder while armed in connection with the case.

Homicide in the 1300 block of New York Avenue, NE

(Washington, DC)-Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch have announced that an arrest has been made in the fatal stabbing which occurred in the 1300 block of New York Ave, NE.

On Friday, February 17, 2012, at approximately 10:43 am, units from the Fifth District responded to the 1300 block of New York Ave, NE, to assist the DC Protective Services Police Department, who were investigating the report of a stabbing. Upon their arrival, they located an adult male victim who was unconscious and suffering from multiple stab wounds. Personnel from DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. Special police officers from DC Protective Services Police Department had detained the suspect on the scene.

The decedent’s identity is being withheld pending next of kin notification.

After further investigation, the suspect who was identified as 25-year-old Reginald Edward Green of Northeast, DC was charged with Murder Two while Armed.

Friday Morning Stabbing Kills Man in NE DC

A stabbing on New York Avenue Northeast left a man dead Friday morning, MPD reports.

Said Fifth District Commander Andy Solberg:

Today at about 10:45 am, a man was stabbed outside 1355 New York Avenue, NE.

Despite life-savings efforts at the scene, the man died of his wounds.

There is a suspect in custody.
