Judge Jennifer Anderson agreed and ordered Bilal held until his next hearing.

Four witnesses saw the stabbing, although only one saw a knife, Detective Hosam Nasr testified Monday. The other witnesses simply thought the attacker was punching Beasley.

Defense attorney Gabriel Diaz argued that because only one witness identified Bilal by photograph, and the other witnesses thought the altercation was a fist fight, it should be difficult to find probable cause.

In addition, one witness said the assailant was 5-foot-10, significantly shorter than Bilal's actual height of 6-foot-3, and another selected a photo other than Bilal's from a photo array when police asked the witness to identify the attacker, Diaz said.

Two other witnesses only identified the attacker as "Mo," a nickname police say refers to Bilal.

Nasr testified that police found possible bloodstains on the basement wall of a house connected to Bilal and in a truck Bilal owned, but were unable to find a knife at the crime scene that could be connected to the stabbing. Nasr said he could not remember if police found a knife at the house with the possible bloodstains.

In court Monday, Nasr said that Bilal tried to solicit a fellow inmate to kill one of the witnesses in the case, and Pace added during the hearing he was worried about the witness' safety.

Judge Anderson called this a "troubling fact," but said she had not seen enough information regarding the accusation to take it into consideration.

Bilal is scheduled for a felony status conference on October 10 at 10 a.m. before Judge John Ramsey Johnson.
Timothy RyanMon, 04 Aug 2014 15:28:12 -0400http://homicidewatch.org/2014/08/04/probable-cause-found-against-malik-bilal-in-alonzo-beasley-stabbing/Alonzo Gregory BeasleyMalik BilalMalik Bilal Held in Connection with the Stabbing Death of Alonzo Beasleyhttp://homicidewatch.org/2014/07/09/malik-bilal-held-in-connection-with-the-stabbing-death-of-alonzo-beasley/
Malik Bilal, 38, was held Wednesday on suspicion of second-degree murder while armed in connection to the stabbing death of Alonzo Gregory Beasley.

On June 6, 52-year-old Beasley was found suffering from visible stab wounds at 22nd and I Street Northeast. According to an autopsy, Beasley was stabbed six times, including once to the left neck.

Charging documents in the case state that a witness to the stabbing told police that Beasley and Bilal had been arguing for the past two days when, on June 6, they and others returned from a day of work at a construction site.

Bilal told Beasley to "leave me alone," as he took a piece of equipment from his truck, the witness told police. The witness said they then saw Beasley getting something from a cooler in the back of Bilal's truck, documents state.

"Don't touch my truck," Bilal yelled before he swung on Beasley, the witness told police.

According to the witness, this ignited a physical confrontation in the middle of the street, which caused Beasley to fall down, charging documents say. The witness told police it didn't see a knife and that it appeared Beasley and Bilal were fist-fighting, documents state.

Another witness heard shouting and Bilal say repeatedly, "I told you don't touch my truck," while hitting Beasley, documents say.

The witness told police that Beasley was trying to run across the street and repeatedly said he was sorry, according to the documents.

A third witness, who said he called 911 for help after seeing that Beasley was injured, told police that Bilal went to his truck and that he had a knife in his hand, according to charging documents. The witness described the knife as a "pocket knife with a silver blade," documents state.

Charging documents say Bilal told another witness he was "scared."

Bilal is scheduled for a preliminary hearing August 4 at 9:30 before Judge John Ramsey Johnson.

A copy of the charging documents is below.
Imari WilliamsWed, 09 Jul 2014 21:47:50 -0400http://homicidewatch.org/2014/07/09/malik-bilal-held-in-connection-with-the-stabbing-death-of-alonzo-beasley/Alonzo Gregory BeasleyMalik BilalMalik Bilal Arrested in Stabbing Death of Alonzo Gregory Beasleyhttp://homicidewatch.org/2014/07/08/malik-bilal-arrested-in-stabbing-death-of-alonzo-gregory-beasley/
A 38-year-old Northeast DC man was arrested Tuesday in connection with the death of Alonzo Gregory Beasley.

Police identified him as Malik Bilal and said he's suspected of second-degree murder while armed.

A press release from MPD is after the jump.

July 8, 2014
Arrest Made in Homicide at 22nd and I Streets, NE

(Washington, DC) – Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch announced today an arrest has been made in the homicide which occurred at 22nd and I Streets, NE.

On Sunday, July 6, 2014, at approximately 3:33 pm officers from the Fifth District responded to a call for a stabbing at 22nd and I Streets NE.
