Antonio Williams Sentenced to 4 Years, 2 Months for Death of Andre McIntyre

Before he was sentenced to more than four years in prison, Antonio Williams turned to face Andre McIntyre's family and told them he "practiced and practiced" what he was going to say.

"But it ain't coming together right," Williams said, "Because I'm looking at y'all and I see pain in y'all's eyes."

On March 1, 2014, just after midnight, police officers found McIntryre unconscious and bleeding from a head wound. Prosecutors said that Williams punched McIntyre that night because McIntyre owed him money.

In court Friday, Williams said that he had also lost loved ones to violence and apologized, though he added, "There's nothing I can say that's going to help right now."

Williams pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter nearly six weeks after McIntyre's death.

Prosecutors and defense attorneys agreed that it was one of the quickest plea agreements that either party had entered.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Reagan Taylor noted that though Williams appeared "ready to accept responsibility," McIntyre's family was still having "a hard time accepting and understanding" the charge of involuntary manslaughter in the case.

Defense attorney Anthony Matthews said that he did not "endorse" or "recommend" the quick plea to his client.

Judge Jennifer Anderson told the court that she "struggled mightily" to determine a fair sentence, noting that though Williams seemed remorseful, he did "sucker punch [McIntyre] very hard, all over a small amount of money."

But outside the courtroom, McIntyre's family expressed their disappointment and anger over the length of the sentence.

"Not enough time," said one family member. "Just not enough time."

Antonio Williams Pleads Guilty in Connection with Death of Andre McIntyre

Antonio Williams pleaded guilty Tuesday to a felony charge of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the March 1 death of Andre McIntyre. But Judge Jennifer Anderson decided not to accept William's plea until McIntyre’s family can speak in court for William's sentencing on June 13.

Williams was charged with second-degree murder in the case. Prosecutors have agreed to drop the charge and will recommend a prison sentence between three and five years in exchange for William's plea.

Emergency personnel found McIntyre bleeding from a head wound and unconscious near the 300 block of Ridge Road Southeast just after midnight on March 1. He was transported to the hospital where he later died.

Prosecutors said that they could have proved that Williams argued with McIntyre that night and punched him, causing McIntyre to fall and hit his head on the ground.

Two witnesses described McIntyre as being in debt to Williams over drugs and money before the argument, according to charging documents.

One witness said that Williams left the scene and returned when police and paramedics were on scene and asked, “Is Dre alright?” according to the plea agreement.

Paramedics were unsure if McIntyre had been shot in the head, but the cause of death was later ruled blunt force trauma, according plea documents.

Judge Anderson asked Williams if the facts presented in the plea agreement were accurate, to which Williams responded, “Yeah, that’s basically what happened.”

Antonio Williams Held in Connection with Death of Andre McIntyre

Judge Brian Holeman ruled that there was enough evidence Saturday to hold Antonio Williams on a charge of second-degree murder in connection with the death of Andre McIntyre. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on April 7.

McIntyre was found unconscious near the 300 block of Ridge Road Southeast bleeding from a head wound shortly after midnight on March 1. Police arrested Williams about four weeks later.

Two witnesses told police that McIntyre owed money to Williams for "drugs bought on credit" prior to the attack, according to charging documents.

Williams, who is also known as Jamal, approached McIntyre and had a conversation with him about the drug debt, according to one witness. The witness said that Williams turned to leave but then spun back and punched McIntyre in the face, causing McIntyre to fall and hit his head on the ground, according to charging documents.

That witness said that Williams then left the scene, but he returned once paramedics and police were on the scene and asked, "Is Dre alright?" according to charging documents.

Another witness was walking several yards ahead of McIntyre and reported that he or she didn't know how McIntyre ended up on the ground, but believed that he had fallen, according to charging documents.

First responders and hospital doctors initially were unsure whether McIntyre had been shot in the head or had fallen and hit his head, but the cause of death was later ruled as blunt force trauma, according to charging documents.

Antonio Williams Arrested in Shooting Death of Andre McIntyre

A 26-year-old D.C. man was arrested Friday in connection with the shooting death of Andre McIntyre earlier this month.

The man, identified by police as Antonio Williams, is suspected of second-degree murder.

McIntyre was found unconscious on March 1, suffering from apparent head trauma in the 300 block of Ridge Road, Southeast. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

(Washington, DC) – Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch have announced that an arrest has been made in the homicide which occurred in the 300 block of Ridge Road, Southeast.
On Saturday, March 1, 2014, at approximately 12:20 am, members from the Sixth District responded to a call for the report of an unconscious person in the 300 block of Ridge Road, Southeast. Upon their arrival, members located an adult male suffering from apparent trauma to his head. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner pending an autopsy.
The decedent has been identified as 46-year-old Andre McIntyre of Northwest, DC.

The cause of death was found to be blunt force trauma of the head and neck and the manner was ruled a homicide.

Sixth Homicide Victim in DC Since Thursday Night: Andre McIntyre

A man found beaten shortly after midnight early Saturday morning has died; he is the sixth homicide victim in DC since Thursday night.

Police identified the man as 46-year-old Andre McIntyre of Northwest DC.

They said police received a call for an unconscious person in the 3700 block of D Street, Southeast at 12:20 a.m. McIntyre was found there suffering from head trauma. He was transported to a local hospital where he was declared dead.

36 Hours

Update: This post has been updated to reflect the identities of the victims.

Six people have been reported killed in the past 36 hours in Washington, DC.

On Thursday at about 5 p.m., 17-year-old Jonathon Adams was found stabbed in the 4300 block of Halley Terrace, Southeast. He was taken to a local hospital where he died. On Friday, Jibril Abdul-Muwwakil was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder while armed in connection with the case.
Less than four hours later, at 8:30 p.m., Tykia Dickerson was found shot in the 3600 block of Jay Street, Northeast.
Friday evening, two men were fatally shot outside a church in Northeast DC, about a mile and a half from where Dickerson was killed. The victims have been identified as brothers Khalid Jamal Bryant, 34, and Jason Emmanuel Bryant, 26.
At about 3 a.m. Saturday, a man was found fatally shot in the 4800 block of 9th St Northwest. The victim has been identified as 51-year-old Billy Andre Harris of Northwest DC.
Police found 46-year-old Andre McIntyre of Northwest DC suffering from head trauma just after midnight Saturday morning. He died at a local hospital.

These deaths bring the 2014 homicide count to 24. In the same period last year 12 people were killed.

Five of those killed this year have been women, representing about 22 percent of all the homicides. Last year, less than 11 percent of the victims were female.

Six of the victims have been under the age of twenty, five of them teenagers. A total of seven teens were killed last year.

Seven 2014 homicides have been closed by arrest.
