Metro Police Confirm Shooting Victim ID as Antonio Wade

Metro Police confirmed in an email to Homicide Watch this morning that the victim of a shooting in Anacostia early Saturday morning is 18-year-old Antonio Wade of the 5700 block of Blaine Street NE.

Wade was found inside a car in the 1700 block of 14th Street SE with a gunshot wound at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 11. D.C. Fire and EMS transported him to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Four other people were found shot near where Wade was found, police said. There is no word on their conditions.

Twitter and Facebook messages from that night refer to a party in that area where a shooting occurred.

According to his Facebook profile, Wade is a 2009 graduate of H.D. Woodson High School. Friends of Wade have left memorial messages on his wall since early Saturday.

Identity of Man Killed in Anacostia Shooting Still Not Public, Metro Police Say

A Metro Police spokeswoman said this morning that there is no new information to release in Saturday's Anacostia shooting, including the identity of the man who was killed.

Homicide Watch received a tip yesterday that that person is Antonio Wade.

Officer Tisha Gant said the public information office had not received any additional information on the case since the original report on Dec. 11 and could not confirm the victim's identity.

Multiple Shooting Incidents in the Sixth District
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating multiple shootings that led to a fatality.

At approximately, 2:30 am on Saturday, December 11, 2010, members of the Sixth District responded to the 1700 block of 14th Street, SE for the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival on the scene they located an unidentified male inside of a vehicle who had sustained an apparent gunshot wound. Personnel from DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded and transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was subsequently pronounced dead.

While on the original scene, officers received a second assignment for gunshot victims in the 1400 block of Ridge Place, SE. At this location, officers located three additional gunshot victims. They also were transported to local hospitals for treatment. Shortly thereafter, a fifth victim entered a local hospital suffering from a gunshot wound and advised that he was shot at this same location.

This investigation is continuing.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons wanted for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.

Possible ID in Saturday’s Anacostia Shooting

Homicide Watch D.C. received a tip this morning that the deceased victim in a shooting Saturday that left one person dead and four injured is Antonio Wade. Metro Police have not released the victim's identity. Homicide Watch has a call in to their media line seeking more information and has not had confirmation that the tip we got is correct.

Facebook and Twitter R.I.P posts from D.C. residents are mentioning an Antonio Wade, who died Saturday, according to the posts.

DC Fire and EMS responded early this morning to a shooting in Southeast D.C. that injured at least four people. Others in D.C. tweeted about sounds of gunshots and a shooting at a house party that injured several people and killed one. I contacted Metro Police in the Sixth District for more information.

Update 12:10 p.m.: The Washington Post gets some details:

Officers responded at about 2:30 a.m. to a report of shots fired the 1700 block of 14th St. SE and found a man with apparent gunshot wounds, a police spokesman, Officer Hugh Carew, said Saturday. The man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, Carew said.

While officers were on the 14th Street scene, a report came in of gunshot victims a couple of hundred feet away, in the 1400 block of Ridge Place SE. There, officers found three people with gunshot wounds who were transported to the hospital, Carew said. Another person shot in that incident went to the hospital separately, Carew said.
