Maurice Leo Hawkins Pleads Innocent in Murder of Barbara Lloyd

A grand jury has indicted Maurice Leo Hawkins on a charge of first-degree murder for the 2011 death of Barbara Lloyd.

The indictment alleges that Hawkins fatally stabbed Lloyd, a homeless Baltimore woman, with premeditated malice Aug. 8, 2011. Officers found her body near the Old Post Office Pavilion, less than a mile from the White House, at 6:20 a.m. that day.

Detectives charged Hawkins after a DNA analysis determined that blood on his shoes, t-shirt, backpack, and inside the handle of a folding knife he carried belonged to Lloyd.

According to the indictment, Hawkins called 911 the morning Lloyd was found dead, and also placed a call to his parole officer saying he had "walked up on a dead woman."

Hawkins has pleaded innocent and rejected an offer from prosecutors to plead guilty to the lesser charge of second-degree murder while armed.

Probable Cause Found in Case Against Maurice Hawkins

Judge Ronna Beck found probable cause today in the case against Maurice Hawkins, suspected of killing 56-year-old Baltimore woman, Barbara Lloyd.

Hawkins, 54, appeared in court Friday for the preliminary hearing on a charge of second-degree murder while armed.

According to charging documents in the case, Hawkins was arrested after lab testing determined that Lloyd’s DNA was found on Hawkins’ tennis shoes, t-shirt, backpack and inside the handle of a folding knife he carried.

Lloyd was homeless at the time of her death. She was found dead of an apparent stabbing in an alcove of the Old Post Office Pavilion on Aug 8. Hawkins is said to have been homeless as well.

Beck said video and DNA evidence, as well as an inconsistant statement Hawkins made about when he was with Lloyd convinced her that there was reason to believe Hawkins could have killed Lloyd. She ordered Hawkins held while a grand jury investigates the case.

A status hearing was set for June 8.

A homeless man suspected of killing 56-year-old Baltimore woman, Barbara Lloyd, was ordered held on suspicion of second-degree murder while armed today pending a preliminary hearing.

Maurice Hawkins is due back in court Jan. 12.

According to charging documents in the case, Hawkins was arrested after lab testing determined that Lloyd's DNA was found on Hawkins' tennis shoes, t-shirt, backpack and inside the handle of a folding knife he carried.

Lloyd, like Hawkins, was homeless at the time of her death. She was found dead of an apparent stabbing in an alcove of the Old Post Office Pavilion on Aug 8.

According to charging documents, she was stabbed about ten times.

Maurice Leo Hawkins, 54, was arrested today on suspicion of second-degree murder while armed in connection with the stabbing death of Barbara Lloyd near the Old Post Office Pavilion in August.

A detective familiar with the case said Hawkins is expected to be presented with the charge Friday.

Lloyd, a 56-year-old woman with family in Baltimore, was identified as "Jane Doe" for 22 days while authorities sought out her next-of-kin.

Arrest Made in the Homicide Stabbing in the 1100 Block of Pennsylvania Avenue, NW

(Washington, DC)-Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch have announced that an arrest has been made in the stabbing death in the 1100 block of Pennsylvania Ave, NW.

On Monday, August 8, 2011, at approximately 6:20 am, units from the First District responded to the 1100 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, NW to investigate the report of an unconscious person. Upon their arrival, they found an unidentified female on the scene, suffering from apparent stab wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to the scene and determined that the victim had no signs consistent with life.

The victim was later identified as 56-year-old Barbara Ann Lloyd, of no fixed address.

On Thursday, December 22, 2011, at approximately 1:30 pm, detectives from the Homicide Branch arrested 54 year-old Maurice Leo Hawkins, of no fixed address, pursuant to a booking order from DC Jail and charged him with Murder Two while Armed.

i believe in justice an my mother deserves it she didnt do anything to anyone to deserve this to happen to her i loved my mom dearly and it killed me to see her struggle to raise me on her own sometimes she would go without just make sure he children was taking care of i miss you mommy soo much may your sweet hearted kind soul rest in peace but its a shame when you loose at parent at the age 18. this monster does not to be running the streets because some1 else child mom,daughter can be in danger my mom needs justice and this family will never have any closer until she we all know he's put away.

Woman Found Fatally Stabbed in Downtown DC ID'ed as Barbara Lloyd

A woman found stabbed to death less than a mile from the White House on Aug. 8 has been identified as Barbara Lloyd, a 56-year-old Baltimore woman.

Lloyd was named by MPD as "Eman Mohammed," even while she remained a "Jane Doe" while detectives sought out her next of kin.

She was found near the Old Post Office Pavilion at about 6:20 a.m. on Aug. 8. She had been fatally stabbed.

MPD is seeking information about a woman found stabbed to death outside the Old Pose Office Pavilion in downtown D.C. last week.

In an informational reward poster, the woman is identified as a "Jane Doe," but says she is also known as "Eman Mohammed."

Homicide Watch has a call in to MPD seeking more information on the woman's identity.

A woman found dead of an apparent stabbing in downtown DC on Monday has been identified by authorities, an MPD spokeswoman said Friday.

The woman's identity will be released pending notification of her next of kin, the spokeswoman said.

A stabbing in northwest DC early Monday morning killed a woman police have not yet identified. Her body, according to media reports, was found in an outdoor stairwell of the Old Post Office Pavillion.
