A vigil was held Friday night for Francisco "Franky" Rivas, a 19-year-old Maryland man who was fatally shot in Northeast DC Thursday evening.

Francisco "Franky" Rivas, killed Thursday evening in Northeast DC, was a young father and High Point High School Class of 2010 alumnus, according to his Facebook profile and memories posted by his friends today.

A man killed in a Northeast DC shooting Thursday evening was identified Friday as 19-year-old Francisco Orlando Rivas of Hyattsville, MD.

Homicide at
10th and Gallatin Streets, Northeast

(Washington, DC)-Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating the fatal shooting which occurred in the area of 10th and Gallatin Streets, NE.

On Thursday, February 23, 2012, at approximately 6:25 pm, units from the Fourth District responded to the area of 10th and Gallatin Streets, NE, for the report of a man down. Upon their arrival, they located the victim, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Personnel from the DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The decedent has been identified as 19 year-old Francisco Orlando Rivas of Hyattsville, MD.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons wanted for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.

Man Shot Thursday Evening in NE DC

An early evening shooting in Northeast DC Thursday night seriously injured one man, possibly killing him, police and media reports say.

In a message on the Fourth District MPD listserv, Commander Kimberly Chisley-Missouri wrote:

Shortly before 6:30pm this evening, units received a call for a shooting at 10th and Gallatin Sts NE. Upon arrival, an adult male was located suffering from apparent gunshot wounds and was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced. This case is being investigated by Detectives of the Violent Crimes Branch. Anyone with information is asked to call 202-727-9099.

WUSA reported late Thursday evening that the case was a homicide.
