Kevin Benbow Sentenced to 10 Years for Sept 2010 Murder of Jinnell McQueen

Kevin Benbow pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree murder while armed Friday and was sentenced to 10 years in prison in connection with the Nov. 2010 shooting death of 42-year-old Jinnell Barbara McQueen.

Benbow, who was 17 at the time of the shooting, was charged as an adult in the case. Benbow was arrested in April 2011, but a preliminary hearing in his case was delayed several times. The hearing and sentencing Friday was the first public hearing of the government's evidence in the case.

McQueen was found shot on Nov. 7, 2010, at approximately 12:34 a.m., the 1200 block of Eaton Road Southeast. Police in charging documents said that McQueen had been shot in the head and was lying on her back. She was found with her outer pants pockets and second pair of pants pockets turned inside out, suggesting a robbery. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary Hearing for Kevin Benbow Postponed for the Seventh Time

The preliminary hearing of Kevin Benbow, 17-year-old suspected in the November 2010 shooting death of Jinnell McQueen, was cut short today in D.C. Superior Court after a private conversation between Judge William Jackson and the attorneys handling the case.

At the hearing, the prosecutor and defense attorney approached the bench and spoke with the Jackson. Then Jackson excused all parties from the courtroom.

What was discussed and decided is unknown. Those details are under seal, Jackson said.

According to court documents, Benbow is charged with first-degree murder in the death of McQueen. He was arrested in April 2010; the preliminary hearing has been postponed seven times.

Charging documents allege that Benbow and an associate were attempting to rob McQueen when she was shot. Benbow told police that McQueen approached him and his associate and asked them about buying PCP. As the three walked down Eaton Road SE, Benbow or his associate told McQueen that they were robbing her. She fought Benbow’s associate and Benbow picked up his associate’s gun to break up the fight, but he slipped and the gun fired, striking McQueen in the head, Benbow told police.

Court Apperances for Kevin Benbow, Rashad Slye Postponed

Preliminary hearings scheduled for Friday in two murder cases have been postponed.

Rashad Slye, who was due to appear on a charge of first degree felony murder while armed in the shooting death of Domingo Ezirike, is now expected for a preliminary hearing on Nov. 29.

Kevin Benbow, who was due to appear on a charge of first degree murder in the shooting death of Jinnell McQueen, is now expected for a preliminary hearing on Jan. 27.

Kevin Benbow's preliminary hearing continued to June

A preliminary hearing for Kevin Benbow, suspected of first degree murder in the shooting death of Jinnell McQueen, was postponed today at the request of both his defense attorney and a government prosecutor. He was not present in the courtroom this morning.

Benbow is now expected in court for the hearing on June 2.

A 17-year-old suspected in the November 2010 shooting death of a Seat Pleasant woman in Southeast D.C., has been charged as an adult in the case.

According to court documents, Kevin Benbow was presented with the first-degree murder charge Saturday and ordered held pending a preliminary hearing in the case.

Charging documents allege that Benbow and an associate were attempting to rob Jinnell McQueen when the woman was shot. Benbow told police that McQueen approached him and his associate and asked them about buying PCP. As the three walked down Eaton Road SE, Benbow or his associate told McQueen that they were robbing her. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for the case for May 5.

Teen Arrested in Shooting Death of 42-year-old Seat Pleasant, Md. Woman

MPD announced today that a 17-year-old male has been arrested on suspicion of homicide in the death of Jinnell McQueen in November.

The teen was not identified because he is being charged as a juvenile. A D.C. Courts representative was not immediately available to say when the teen is expected to be charged.

Arrest Made in Homicide in the 1200 Block of Eaton Road, SE

(Washington, DC) — Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch announced a suspect has been arrested in the homicide of Jinnell McQueen in the 1200 block of Eaton Road, SE.

On Sunday, November 7, 2010, at approximately 12:30 a.m. members of the Seventh District responded to the 1200 block of Eaton Road, SE, to investigate the report of sounds of gunshots and a person down. Upon their arrival, they located the decedent 42-year-old Jinnell McQueen suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and determined the victim had no signs consistent with life and was left on the scene. Ms. McQueen was later transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and pronounced dead.

Forty-two year-old Jinnell Barbara McQueen died Sunday Nov. 7 after being shot in Southeast D.C, Metro Police reported.

Maryland Community Newspapers reported McQueen was found suffering from a gunshot wound by officers who had responded to a call for the sound of gunshots. McQueen was a resident of Seat Pleasant, Md.
