He is being held in connection with a series of hammer attacks in Petworth, one of which killed <a href="http://homicidewatch.org/victims/gary-dederichs/">Gary Dederichs</a>.</p> <p>Davis, brother of NFL stars Vernon and Vontae Davis, was <a href="http://homicidewatch.org/2013/05/14/michael-davis-found-competent-to-stand-trial-in-gary-dederichs-death-pleads-innocent/">ruled</a> competent to stand trial by Judge Robert Morin in May 2013, after two previous observations.<br /> <span id="more-24410"></span><br /> In April 2012, 66-year-old Dederichs was found by police suffering from a blunt force trauma to the head in the 800 block of Emerson Street Northwest. He died on the scene.</p> <p>During an earlier hearing in February 2014, Davis' attorneys <a href="http://homicidewatch.org/2014/02/14/defense-seeks-to-reestablish-michael-davis-as-incompetent-for-trial/">argued</a> that he was still mixing up legal concepts and that he could not participate fully in his defense.</p> <p>"Virtually all of the Hospital letters indicate that Mr. Davis required 'education' on one or more areas," Davis's attorneys wrote in a motion presented to the court.</p> <p>An evaluator from St. Elizabeths Hospital asked for a 30-day observation in order to conduct more treatment. </p> <p>Judge Morin ruled Davis will remain at St. Elizabeths until Davis is restored to mental competency. </p> <p>His next mental observation hearing is scheduled for Sept. 19 at 2:15 p.m. </p> Imari WilliamsWed, 20 Aug 2014 18:39:37 -0400http://homicidewatch.org/2014/08/20/two-years-and-four-examinations-later-michael-davis-found-incompetent-for-trial/Michael DavisGary DederichsMichael Davis Identified as NE DC Sunday Morning Shooting Victimhttp://homicidewatch.org/2013/12/22/michael-davis-identified-as-ne-dc-sunday-morning-shooting-victim/<p><iframe src="http://homicidewatch.org/api/v1/homicides/333.html" width="100%" height="350" frameborder=0></iframe></p> <p>A man killed early Sunday morning in Northeast DC has been identified as 24-year-old <a href="http://homicidewatch.org/victims/michael-davis-victims/" >Michael Davis</a>.</p> <p>Davis was one of two men found shot shortly after 4 a.m. in the 1300 block of Saratoga Avenue, Northeast. The other man had non-life threatening injuries, police said.</p> <p>A press release from MPD is after the jump.<br /> <span id="more-19887"></span></p> <blockquote><p>December 22, 2013</p> <p>Homicide: 1300 Block of Saratoga Avenue, NE</p> <p>(Washington, DC)- The Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide which occurred in the 1300 block of Saratoga Avenue, NE.</p> <p>On Sunday, December 22, 2013, at approximately 4:13 am, members of the Fifth District responded for the report of the sounds of gunshots in the 1300 block of Saratoga Avenue, NE. Upon arrival, they located two adult males suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel transported them to a local hospital. The first victim was treated for non-life threatening injuries. The second victim was subsequently transported from the hospital to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and pronounced dead.</p> <p>The decedent is identified as 24 year-old Michael Davis of Northeast, Washington, DC.</p> <p>The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons wanted for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
