A man found shot to death in Northeast DC Friday morning has been identified by police as 24-year-old Vernon Davis of Northeast DC.

Homicide: 1900 Block of 3rd Street, NE

(Washington, DC)-Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting which occurred in the 1900 block of 3rd Street, NE.

On Friday, September 13, 2013, at approximately 8:22 am, officers from the Fifth District responded to the 1900 block of 3rd Street, NE for the report of an unconscious male. Upon their arrival, they located an unconscious adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded and did not find any signs consistent with life. The victim remained on the scene and was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the District of Columbia, pending an autopsy and a determination of cause and manner of death.

The decedent is identified as 24 year-old Vernon Davis of Northeast, Washington, DC.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons wanted for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia. Apparent Shooting Death of Young Man in NE DC Investigated as Homicide

The death of a young man in Northeast DC is being investigated as a homicide, MPD's Fifth District Commander Andy Solberg said in a listserv message Friday afternoon.

Wrote Solberg:

This morning at about 8 am, a person discovered the body of a young man who appeared to have been shot next to a building at 1944 3rd St, NE.

The matter is being investigated as a homicide.

The Washington Post reports that the police say the man was shot once and was pronounced dead at the scene.
