Joseph Peoples was ordered held today pending a preliminary hearing after Judge Karen Howze ruled that there was substantial probability that he engaged in a shootout in Southeast DC killing one man and injuring another.

The shooting killed 30-year-old Michael Edward Jones.

According to charging documents in the case, Peoples was identified, in part, from video surveillance of the street where the shooting occurred.

That video also shows Jones returning fire. Bullets from two types of guns were found on the scene.
