The indictment alleges that Hawkins fatally stabbed Lloyd, a homeless Baltimore woman, with premeditated malice Aug. 8, 2011. Officers found her body near the Old Post Office Pavilion, less than a mile from the White House, at 6:20 a.m. that day.
Detectives charged Hawkins after a DNA analysis determined that blood on his shoes, t-shirt, backpack, and inside the handle of a folding knife he carried belonged to Lloyd.
According to the indictment, Hawkins called 911 the morning Lloyd was found dead, and also placed a call to his parole officer saying he had “walked up on a dead woman.”
Hawkins has pleaded innocent and rejected an offer from prosecutors to plead guilty to the lesser charge of second-degree murder while armed.
