As part of the pre-indictment plea deal, Cosby also pled guilty to felony assault in an unrelated incident in July. Attorneys did not agree on a sentencing range as part of the plea. When accepting the plea, Judge Thomas Motley asked Cosby if she understood that the plea did not include any specific sentence. She said she did.
The maximum sentence for voluntary manslaughter is thirty years in prison, Motley said.
According to the government’s proffer of facts, Cosby jumped into a fight between Morris and a friend of hers in the 2200 block of 4th Street Northeast on the night of Sept. 13.
Morris knocked Cosby to the ground, and when she got up, she stabbed him in the upper left torso.
According to the proffer, Cosby then chased Morris down the street, while threatening to kill him, and followed him onto the porch of a house on the 300 block of Bryant Street Northeast. Cosby then stabbed Morris again.
Cosby said Friday that she remembered stabbing Morris the first time, but “then I went black.” She said she was intoxicated at the time of the stabbing.
Sentencing has been scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on March 21, 2013.
Plea documents will be posted when they become available.
