Teen Arrested in Rashard Raigns Shooting Death Charged as Adult

A teenager arrested earlier this week in connection with the shooting death of Rashard Raigns has been charged as an adult in the case.

The teen, identified in court documents as Demitrich Jones, is 16 years old. He was presented Thursday with the charge of first-degree murder while armed and ordered held pending a preliminary hearing.

Probable Cause Found Against Antonio Hester in the Shooting Death of Tracy McFadden

Judge Rhonda Winston ruled Thursday that there is substantial probability in the case against Antonio Hester, held in connection with the January 2013 shooting death of Tracy McFadden.

Police found 44-year-old McFadden outside a nightclub on the 2700 Block of Georgia Avenue Northwest, suffering from six gunshot wounds, including four to his neck.

At a preliminary hearing Thursday, MPD Detective Ricardo Leiva testified that a witness who was romantically involved with Hester at the time told police Hester and McFadden got into two different arguments while they were inside the Chuck and Billy nightclub.

Jury Begins Deliberations in Arik Sims Murder Trial

Prosecutors in the murder trial against Arik Sims say that his “constantly evolving story” shows his guilt in the shooting death of Lamar Fonville. But Sims’ defense attorneys say Sims was scared and multiple eyewitnesses say Sims didn’t kill his friend.

After seven days of trial, it is now up to jurors to decide whether another man shot Fonville while Sims was at home with his sick mother and tattoo clients, or whether Sims shot Fonville seemingly without provocation because Sims thought Fonville robbed his mother’s house.

Fonville, 33, was found with a gunshot wound outside an apartment building in the 7400 block of Georgia Avenue Northwest around 2:29 a.m. on September 30, 2012. Sims is charged with first-degree murder and three related weapon charges in connection with his death.

Southeast DC Man Arrested in Stabbing Death of Elike Rahmon Richardson

A 28-year-old DC man has been arrested in connection with the May stabbing death of Elike Rahmon Richardson in Southeast DC, MPD said Thursday evening.

The man, identified as Allen Thomas, of Southeast DC, is suspected of second-degree murder while armed.

Richardson was found stabbed shortly after 9 pm. on May 13 in the 4400 block of C Street Southeast.

Juvenile Arrested in Death of Rashard Raigns

Police arrested a juvenile Wednesday morning in the murder of Rashard Raigns, who was shot in Northeast a week ago.

The youth, who was only identified as a “juvenile male of Northeast,” was arrested on suspicion of felony murder while armed.

Another suspect, William Smallwood was arrested the day before and ordered held Wednesday afternoon.

William Smallwood Held in Connection with Shooting Death of Rashard Raigns

William Smallwood was presented Wednesday on charges of first-degree murder while armed in connection with the shooting death of Rashard Raigns.

On June 4, police found Raigns lying face down on a sidewalk in the 1900 block of Fenwick Street Northeast with a gunshot wound. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Smallwood, 22, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of first-degree murder while armed.

Police believe Raigns was killed during a robbery, charging documents state.

A man shot in the 1900 block of Bruce Place Southeast on Wednesday has died of his wounds and the shooting has been declared a homicide, MPD Officer Paul Metcalf says.

Reports NBC Washington:

Crews responded to the 1900 block of Bruce Place SE around 1:30 p.m. after a witness frantically knocked on a neighbor’s door, yelling, “Call the police, a boy’s been shot!”

Arik Sims Takes The Stand in His Defense for the Shooting Death of Lamar Fonville

Arik Sims, the man on trial for shooting and killing 29-year-old Lamar Fonville, told jurors that Fonville was his friend and whoever shot him “needs to be locked up.”

β€œHe was my man,” said Sims. β€œI’ve never had any hard feelings against Lamar.”

Sims is charged with first-degree murder and three related weapon charges in connection with Fonville’s death. On September 30, 2012, police found Fonville suffering from a gunshot wound outside an apartment building in the 7400 block of Georgia Avenue Northwest.

William Smallwood Arrested in Shooting Death of Rashard Raigns

A 22-year-old Northeast D.C. man was arrested Tuesday in connection with the shooting death of Rashard Raigns last Wednesday. The man, identified by police as William Smallwood, is suspected of felony murder while armed.

Raigns was found at approximately 2:42 a.m. on June 4 with a gunshot wound in the 1900 block of Fenwick Street Northeast. He died at the scene.

Probable Cause Found in Case Against Tracy Mathis in the Stabbing Death of India Chapple

In a preliminary hearing Monday, Judge Russell Canan ordered Tracy Mathis to be held without bond after the court found probable cause to believe the charge of second-degree murder. Mathis is suspected of stabbing and killing India Chapple in his home on April 19 in Southeast Washington.

Judge Canan said although the defense argued convincingly that Chapple was the aggressor in the incident, the force with which Mathis allegedly acted was too excessive to be deemed self-defense. Defense attorney Kia Sears argued Chapple followed Mathis and attacked him, making his actions warranted.
