The killing of a 33-year-old D.C. man has stunned his Northwest neighborhood. D.C. Police say Billy Mitchell was shot and killed as he walked home after working late and attending the theatre.

Homicide at North Capitol Street and Florida Avenue, NW
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting which occurred at the intersection of North Capitol Street and Florida Avenue, NW.On Wednesday, January 19, 2011, at approximately 11:00 pm, units from the Fifth District responded to the intersection of North Capitol Street and Florida Avenue, NW, for the report of the sounds of gunshots. Prior to their arrival a First District Unit was flagged down by a citizen and advised of a shooting victim on the corner of North Capitol Street and Florida Avenue, NW. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The decedent is identified as 33-year-old William Mitchell of Northwest, DC.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons wanted for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
