Deshaun Johnson and Timothy Shade pleaded innocent to second degree murder today at a felony arraignment in D.C. Superior Court.
The two men are accused of assaulting Bernard Lewis in Southeast D.C. on Monday, August 30, 2010. Lewis died the next day at a hospital. Officials said he had suffered blunt force injury to the head. Johnson and Shade were both arrested within a week of the assault.
Prosecutors said Friday that plea offers had been extended to the men prior to their indictment on second degree murder charges, but that those offers had been rejected.
The case is due back in court May 27 for a status conference.
