Man Found Dead in Lamond-Riggs, Homicide Suspected



UPDATED: MPD said this evening that the victim of a homicide this morning in Lamond Riggs is Kirk Garnes, of no fixed address.

MPD is investigating a possible homicide in Lamond Riggs this morning.

The victim is a man, approximately 40 years old, Fourth District Captain Frank Hill said in a message on the 4D listserve. The man’s body showed blunt force trauma, Hill said.

At approximately 8 am, MPD received a call that there was a person lying unconscious in the rear of the 200 block of Riggs Road, NE. Fourth District units responded to the location and discovered an adult male, approximately 40 years of age, lying on the ground, deceased. He had obvious blunt force trauma on his upper body. As of this moment this person has not been identified. Homicide Branch detectives are investigating.

Homicide in the 5500 Block of 3rd Street, NE (Washington, DC) â€”

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred in the 5500 block of 3rd Street, NE. On Saturday, April 2, 2011, at approximately 8:10 am, units from the Fourth District were dispatched to the 200 block of Riggs Road, NE to investigate the report of an unconscious person. Upon arrival, they located an adult male in the rear of the 5500 block of 3rd Street, NE unconscious and unresponsive, suffering from apparent blunt force trauma. Personnel from DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and determined the victim had no signs of life. The victim was pronounced dead by a member of the Office of Chief Medical Examiner. Subsequently, the decedent was transported to the OCME pending an autopsy. The decedent has been identified as Kirk Garnes, an adult male, of no fixed address.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons wanted for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
