MPD Chief Cathy Lanier is expected to make an announcement tomorrow about a homicide case that’s been cold for more than a decade.
AP (via WaPo), WJLA, WUSA, City Paper and Fox5 all have the story.
According to those reports, three suspects have been identified in the slaying of Joyce Chiang, a lawyer for the Immigration and Naturalization Service who was 28 years old when she died.
Chiang’s brother, Roger, said in interviews today that one suspect in the case is currently serving a life sentence in Maryland and a second has been extradited to Guyana but authorities don’t have enough evidence to charge a third suspect.
Fox5 reports that a source tells them two of the men are Steve Allen and Neil Joaquin. They worked as a team, “abducting people off the street with intention of robbing them.” Allen is in prison and Joaquin was deported to Guyana in 2006, Fox5 reports.
We’ll have coverage, and a links roundup, from Lanier’s announcement tomorrow.
