WAMU reported today on the vigil for 15-year-old homicide victim Isaiah Harris, which was held last night outside of Harris’ middle school.
At the vigil held at Isaiah’s school, everyone expressed their sorrow a little differently, but one point was made again and again: Isaiah Harris was a young man on the right track, taken from his friends and family far too soon.
“It’s a real loss, he was on a path that should have never included anything like this,” said Jonathan Rothwell, Harris’ mentor in the Big Brothers, Big Sisters program.
Isaiah’s younger brother Xavier, who cried through most of the vigil, is also a part of that program. Xavier can’t stop thinking about the last day he spent with his brother.“We went to go get his prom stuff,” said Xavier. “He was hugging me all day.”
Harris’ friends spoke at the vigil, reiterating that their friend never gave anybody trouble.
“I don’t think he had beef with anybody. He got killed for the wrong reason,” said Joe, Isaiah’s best friend.
According to the report, a PNC bank account has been set up to help the family cover funeral expenses. Checks can be written to the Isaiah Harris Memorial Fund and mailed to Jonathan Rothwell; Re: Isaiah Harris Memorial Fund; 800 4th St SW N321; Washington DC 20024.
