Death of DC Toddler Ruled Homicide

A DC toddler has been the victim of a homicide, MPD said Wednesday evening.

In a press release the child was identified as 20-month-old Keyontae Osbia Moore of Southeast DC. Police said she he died of blunt force trauma early Monday morning.

Wrote MPD:

On Monday, March 5, 2012, at 5:38 am, units from the Seventh District were dispatched to United Medical Center for a disorderly in progress. The nature of the call was later changed to investigate the trouble for an unknown emergency. Upon the unit’s arrival, it was revealed that a 20-month-old child had been transported to the hospital from the 3000 block of 30th Street, SE, in a private vehicle. The child was in extremely critical condition, upon the responding officer’s arrival. The child was immediately transported to Children’s Hospital where he was subsequently pronounced dead.

Friday morning, The Washington Post reported:

Keyontae had been in the care of his mother’s boyfriend when the trauma occurred, according to two law enforcement sources, who were not authorized to speak about the case.

The mother’s boyfriend told Keyontae’s mother that the boy was injured when he fell off a bed at the home, the sources said.

Homicide in the 3000 block of 30th Street, S.E.

(Washington, DC)-Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Special Victims Unit are investigating the homicide of a 20-month-old male child in the 3000 block of 30th Street, SE.

On Monday, March 5, 2012, at 5:38 am, units from the Seventh District were dispatched to United Medical Center for a disorderly in progress. The nature of the call was later changed to investigate the trouble for an unknown emergency. Upon the unit’s arrival, it was revealed that a 20-month-old child had been transported to the hospital from the 3000 block of 30th Street, SE, in a private vehicle. The decedent has been identified as 20-month-old Keyontae Osbia Moore of Southeast, Washington, DC.

On Wednesday, March 7, 2012, an autopsy was completed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The manner of death has been ruled a homicide and the cause of death has been ruled blunt impact trauma.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons wanted for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
