Hurricane Sandy has prompted the DC Superior Court to cancel all non-essential hearings Monday, spokeswoman Leah Gurowitz announced Sunday evening. The court’s decision will push back ongoing murder trials like that of Domique Bassil, among other court matters.
The court joins a long list of government agencies, universities and school districts that have announced they will be closed Monday.
The DC public schools, DC government offices and federal government buildings will all be closed Monday, as will the DC Court of Appeals.
Amtrak, MARC and Virginia Railway Express service were all slated to not run Monday. Metro rail and bus service was also scheduled to be suspended.
Jurors have been hearing arguments in the Bassil case since last week. Testimony was scheduled to resume before Judge Robert Morin at 10 a.m. Monday. That will now wait at least until Tuesday.
