Update: Police have identified the victim as 22-year-old Darnell Rivers.
The Washington Post reports that a man was shot and killed in Southeast D.C. while driving Saturday night. The man has not yet been publicly identified.
Witnesses reported hearing gunshots before seeing the car jump a curb and crash into a tree a little before 8 p.m. last night in the 5000 block of Ayers Place SE.

Homicide: 5000 Block of Ayers Place, SE
(Washington, DC)-Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting which occurred in the 5000 block of Ayers Place, Southeast.
On Saturday, December 29, 2012, at approximately 7:47 pm, DC Housing Police responded to the area of the 5000 block of Ayers Place, SE for the report of the sounds of gunshots. During a canvass of the area they discovered an unresponsive adult male inside of a vehicle suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and determined that the victim had no signs consistent with life. He was later pronounced dead by a member of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Two additional adult male victims, who sustained apparent non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, were later located at a local hospital.
The decedent is identified as 22-year-old Darnell Rivers of Southeast, Washington, DC.
The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons wanted for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
