Cydrisse Alvin, 31, was indicted Tuesday on a charge of first-degree premeditated murder while armed in connection with the stabbing death of her 28-year-old neighbor, Amber Lynette Kent.
Alvin, also known as Meeka, was arraigned on the charge Friday and pleaded innocent.
Prosecutors allege that on June 4, 2012, Alvin knocked on her neighbor’s door, and after being let inside, stabbed Kent several times. The motive behind the killing remains unclear.
A witness who was in the apartment with Kent at the time of the incident told detectives that he looked out the peephole that morning and saw Alvin knocking on the door. The witness went back to bed and told Kent to let Alvin in the house, according to documents in the case.
The witness said that he heard Kent and Alvin having a conversation in the kitchen area, and then heard loud banging. The witness then heard Kent scream, “Meeka, what are you doing?”
The witness got out of bed and ran to the kitchen where he saw Alvin stabbing Kent. He then punched Alvin in the face. Alvin fell to the floor, got up, then fled the apartment, the documents say.
Later that day, Alvin went to pick up her child from Malcolm X Elementary School. School personnel asked Alvin what her name was and a Metropolitan Police Sergeant overheard the conversation. The officer recognized Alvin’s name and arrested her on the spot.
A status hearing is scheduled for March 22.
