James Barber Arrested for 2009 Murder of John Reaves III

A Southeast D.C. man was arrested Wednesday in connection with a murder that took place more than four years ago.

James Barber, 24, was arrested by Metropolitan Police and is expected to be presented Thursday on a charge of second-degree murder while armed in connection with the fatal shooting of 30-year-old John Arthur Reaves III.

Reaves’ body was found in the 800 block of Delafield Street Northeast around 5 p.m. on February 27, 2009.

He later died at the hospital of multiple gunshot wounds.

ARREST MADE IN 2009 HOMICIDE: 800 BLOCK OF DELAFIELD STREETNE

(Washington, DC)-Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s
Homicide Branch have announced that an arrest has been made in the fatal
shooting which occurred in the 800 block Delafield Street, NE.

On Thursday, February 27, 2009, at approximately 5:00 pm, units from
the Fourth District responded to the 800 block of Delafield Street, NE,
for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they located an adult male
suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical
Services transported the victim to a local hospital, where he succumbed
to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The decedent is identified as 30-YEAR-OLD JOHN ARTHUR REAVES III of
Northeast, Washington, DC.

On Wednesday, March 6, 2013, Homicide Detectives charged 24-YEAR-OLD
JAMES BARBER of Southeast, DC, pursuant to a District of Columbia
Superior Court arrest warrant, charging him with Murder Two while Armed
in the fatal shooting of JOHN ARTHUR REAVES III.
