Links Roundup: Non-Fatal Drive-By Shooting Injuries 11 in Northwest DC

A drive-by shooting near New York Avenue and North Capitol Street Northwest early Monday morning has injured 11 people; one is reported to be seriously wounded, none are reported to have been killed.

Reports the Washington Post:

Assistant Police Chief Peter Newsham said gunmen in two dark-colored cars opened fire just after 2 a.m. on a crowd of people outside Tyler House, an eight-story, subsidized residential building on the south side of New York Avenue at North Capitol Street.

Several people were shot Monday morning outside an eight-story housing building at New York Avenue at North Capitol Street.

The seriously injured victim was wounded in the back, said Newsham, adding: “Thank God no one was killed.”

Reports WTOP:

The shootings occurred around 2:45 a.m. in front of Tyler House Apartments in the 1200 block of North Capitol Street, NW. The apartment complex is 1 mile north of the U.S. Capitol.

Lanier says a large group of people was hanging out on the corner when what’s believed to be a dark-colored BMW, followed by a lighter colored car, opened fire on the group. It’s not known yet whether anyone in the group fired back, Lanier said.

Reports NBC Washington:

Police were laying down evidence markers to mark where bullets or fragments landed in a crime scene that stretches nearly a block. McGrath reported that at least 32 markers have been placed on the street.

Investigators remained on the scene waiting for sunlight to aid in their search for more evidence.
