Joseph Peoples Pleads Innocent to Shooting Death of Michael Edward Jones

A grand jury indicted Joseph Peoples Tuesday on a charge of first-degree murder, assault with intent to kill, and three weapons charges in connection with the shooting death of 30-year-old Michael Edward Jones.

Peoples, 21, waived his right to appear before the judge for his arraignment Friday, but his defense attorney, Jason Downs, pled innocent on Peoples’ behalf.

The indictment alleges that Peoples was involved in a shootout on July 7, 2012, which took Jones’ life. Peoples was identified, in part, from video surveillance of the street where the shooting occurred.

That video also shows Jones returning fire. Bullets from two types of guns were found on the scene.

A felony status conference is scheduled for May 17.

The indictment is below.
