Melvin Quick Held in Mikey Ledbetter Murder

Melvin Quick was ordered held Saturday on a charge of first-degree murder while armed pending a preliminary hearing in connection with the shooting death of 36-year-old Mikey Ledbetter.

Police found Ledbetter shot at about 5:30 a.m. on August 2 at 18th and Q streets Southeast. He was transported to a local hospital where he died later that morning.

According to arrest documents in the case, police believe Ledbetter was shot and robbed while sitting in a vehicle.

A witness told police that he was in the vehicle with Ledbetter coming back from a club that morning. The witness said he fell asleep in the car but woke up after being struck and hearing Ledbetter yell, “watch out.”

He told police he then heard a gunshot, and observed three black males with bandanas standing at the vehicle, one pointing a firearm.

The witness said the men took a firearm, money and drugs from him and took money from Ledbetter.

Later, when talking to police, the witness said he recognized one of the black males to be “Melvin,” charging documents say.

Police arrested Quick several hours later, locating him on the 1800 block of Minnesota Ave. Southeast.

Charging documents are below.
