James Baxter Identified as Victim in NE DC Overnight Shooting

A man found fatally shot in Northeast DC overnight has been identified by police as 46-year-old James Baxter of Bowie, Maryland.

Homicide: 500 block of 48th Place, Northeast

(Washington, DC)-Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in the 500 block of 48th Place, NE.

On Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at approximately 11:46 pm, patrol officers from the Sixth District responded to the 500 block of 48th Place Northeast for the sounds of gunshots. Upon their arrival, they located unconscious adult male in the alley in the rear of the 500 block of 48th Place, NE, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to the scene to initiate life saving measures, but found no signs consistent with life. The remains of the decedent were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner pending an autopsy and a determination of a cause and manner of death.

The decedent is identified as 46-year-old James Baxter of Bowie, Maryland.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons wanted for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
