Man Fatally Shot Near SE DC Elementary School Early Friday Morning

UPDATE: 9:40 a.m. Police have identified the man shot as 27-year-old Tyree Beysean Miller. A press release from MPD is after the jump.

A man was killed early Friday morning near Nalle Elementary School in Southeast DC.

NBC Washington reports that the man was shot in what may have been an exchange of gunfire between several gunmen.

Reports NBC Washington:

A semi-automatic weapon police found beside the victim may have been used in an exchange of gunfire with one or more shooters, McGrath reported. More than two dozen shots were fired, damaging about a half dozen cars in the area.

WUSA reports that classes at the school will not be interrupted by the shooting.

Homicide: 5000 Block of Bass Place, Southeast

(Washington, DC)- The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a homicide which occurred in the 5000 Block of Bass Place, Southeast.

On Friday, November 8, 2013, at approximately 3:23 am, police officers from the Sixth Patrol District responded to the 5000 Block of Bass Place, Southeast for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they located an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel transported the victim to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The remains of the decedent were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner pending an autopsy and a determination of a cause and manner of death.

The decedent is identified as 27-year-old Tyree Beysean Miller of an unknown address.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons wanted for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the police at (202) 727-9099. Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to the department’s TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411.
