Melvin Linkins was arraigned Friday on a charge of second-degree murder in connection with the 2011 death of 37-year-old fireman, Marc Emilio Dancy.
Linkins pleaded not guilty to the charge and is on supervised release pending a status hearing on Jan. 15, 2014.
Linkins was originally arrested for Dancy’s death in August, but was released at a September preliminary hearing after a judge found there was not enough evidence to proceed.
The case remained under investigation and was reopened earlier this month after a grand jury returned an indictment charging Linkins with Dancy’s murder.
Police found Dancy dead in the vestibule of an apartment building in the 3000 block of 7th Street Northeast on January 23, 2011, at around 8:00 a.m. An autopsy revealed the cause of death was blunt force trauma; the manner of death was initially undetermined.
More than two years later, Dancy’s death was ruled a homicide.
At a preliminary hearing, Metropolitan Police Detective Anthony Patterson testified that police believe an affair between Linkins’ wife and Dancy, led to Dancy’s death.
Linkins has been placed in the court’s High Intensity Supervision Program, and is required to wear a GPS monitoring bracelet.
The case is scheduled for a status hearing Jan. 15, 2014.
