A fire and subsequent water damage prompted the Moultrie Courthouse building to close Tuesday, spokeswoman Leah Gurowitz announced Tuesday morning. All criminal and juvenile cases previously scheduled for Feb. 11 will be postponed until Feb. 12.
Matters scheduled in other buildings, like the crime victims compensation program, are not affected, Gurowitz said.
According MPD officer, C.X. Hart, the fire was caused by a microwave that “acted up and set off the sprinklers in the JM level.”
Chief Security Officer Richard Parris said the fire was contained and no one was hurt.
The trial of Keir Johnson, Lester Williams, Marcellus Jackson, and Robert Givens, which began nearly four months ago, is among the criminal cases postponed. Testimony is expected to resume Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.
