Two Killed in NE DC Friday Night

Update: NBC Washington reports that the victims have been identified as brothers Khalid Jamal Bryant, 34, and Jason Emmanuel Bryant, 26.

Two men were killed in a double shooting in Northeast DC just before 8 p.m. Friday night, according to media reports.

The deaths are the third and fourth homicides since Thursday evening.

Reports WTOP:

Police would not confirm the ages of the men, nor the circumstances. They said one was treated and pronounced dead on the scene, the other was taken to the hospital where he died. They confirmed to WTOP that the shooting occurred around 8 p.m. Friday on Lee Street at the intersection of 50th Street near Sheriff Road, N.E.


Reports NBC Washington:

The scene was close to Antioch Baptist Church on 50th street in Northeast. Worshippers were briefly held inside the church before they were escorted out a back door. Police would not allow them to turn the corner onto Lee Street, in order to shield the children from the sight of one of the victims.

Double Homicide: 5000 Block of Lee Street, Northeast

(Washington, DC) – Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a double homicide which occurred in the 5000 block of Lee Street, Northeast.

On Friday, February 28, 2014, at approximately 7:45 pm, police officers from the Sixth District responded to a call for a report of a shooting in the 5000 block of Lee Street, Northeast. Upon arrival, they located two adult males suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to the scene. The first shooting victim exhibited no signs consistent with life and remained on the scene. He was subsequently transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Washington, DC. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel transported the second shooting victim to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, Maryland, where an autopsy will be performed to ascertain cause and manner of death.

The first male victim has been identified as 34-year-old Khalid Jamal Bryant of Northeast, DC. The second male victim has been identified as 26-year-old Jason Emmanuel Bryant of Northeast, DC.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons wanted for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
