Links Roundup: Two Killed in Separate SE D.C. Shootings

Update: MPD has identified the victim shot in the 2600 Block of Bowen Road, Southeast as 19-year-old Antwone Dwayne Tolson. The name of the man killed in the unit block of 55 Street Southeast has not been released yet. Two press releases from MPD have been added to the bottom of this post.

Media reports indicate that two men were killed Monday night within minutes of each other in two different Southeast Washington shootings.

Reports the Washington Post:

One of the incidents occurred around 11:15 p.m. Monday when a man was fatally shot in the unit block of 55th Street SE near East Capitol Street. He was transported to an area hospital and later pronounced dead, police said.

Fourteen minutes later, police responded to another call in the 2600 block of Bowen Road SE where a man was shot. He was transported to a local hospital and pronounced dead.

Reports WUSA9:

MPD officials say they received a call reporting the sound of gunshots in the unit block of 55th Street around 11:21 p.m. Once officers arrived at the scene they found a man suffering from multiple gun shot wounds. The victim was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Just eight minutes later, police were called to the 2600 block of Bowen Road for a second report of gunshots. Officers found another man who had been shot several times. He was also transported to the hospital and later pronounced dead.

Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Kelvin Cusick says the calls came in shortly before 11:30 p.m. One shooting happened on 55th Street and the other in the 2600 block of Bowen Road.

Both victims died at the hospital.

Homicide: 2600 Block of Bowen Road, Southeast

(Washington, DC) – Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide which occurred in the 2600 block of Bowen Road, Southeast.

On Monday, May 19, 2014, at approximately 11:29 pm, police officers from the Seventh Patrol District responded to a call for the report of a shooting in the 2600 block of Bowen Road, Southeast. Upon arrival, they located an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the 2600 block of Bowen Road, Southeast. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The decedent was subsequently transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, for the District of Columbia where an autopsy will be performed to ascertain cause and manner of death.

The decedent has been identified as 19-year-old Antwone Dwayne Tolson of Southeast, Washington, DC.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons wanted for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia. On Monday, May 19, 2014, at approximately 11:15 pm, police officers from the Sixth Patrol District responded to a call for the report of a shooting in the Unit block of 55th Street, Northwest. Upon arrival, they located an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds lying in the Unit block of 55th Street, Southeast. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The decedent was subsequently transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, for the State of Maryland where an autopsy will be performed to ascertain cause and manner of death.

The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons wanted for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
