Metropolitan Police announced Thursday that 3-year-old Xavier Lyles died Tuesday in the 2500 block of Pomeroy Road, Southeast.
Emergency services found Lyles unconscious and unresponsive with no signs consistent with life at approximately 11:07 a.m., according to police. The cause of death was later determined to be multiple blunt force injuries.

Homicide: 2500 Block of Pomeroy Road, Southeast
(Washington, DC) – Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide which occurred in the 2500 block of Pomeroy Road, Southeast.
On Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at approximately 11:07 am, police officers from the Seventh Patrol District responded to a call for service for the report of an unconscious child in the 2500 block of Pomeroy Road, Southeast. Upon arrival, they located a male toddler unconscious and unresponsive. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived on the scene and found no signs consistent with life. The decedent was subsequently transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the District of Columbia where an autopsy was performed to ascertain the cause and manner of death.
The cause of death was determined to be multiple blunt force injuries. The manner was ruled a homicide. The homicide investigation is continuing.
The decedent has been identified as 3-year-old Xavier Lyles of Southeast, Washington, DC.
