Police Investigating Shooting Death of 13-Year-Old Boy

MPD announced Wednesday that a 13-year-old boy was killed in a shooting in the 1400 block of Downing Street Northeast. Police say the cause and manner of his death is undetermined and the investigation is ongoing.

A 13-year-old boy who was shot while he and another child were playing with a loaded handgun has died, sources told ABC 7 Thursday morning.

The Washington Post writes:

Authorities have no one in custody at this time in connection with the teen’s Tuesday night death, said Gwendolyn Crump, a spokeswoman for the department.

Just after the 7:20 p.m. shooting, a police spokesman said investigators had one person in custody.

Undetermined Death Investigation: 1400 Block of Downing Street, Northeast

(Washington, DC)-Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating an undetermined death, which occurred in the 1400 block of Downing Street, Northeast.

On Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at approximately 7:21 pm, Fifth District police officers responded to the report of a shooting in the 1400 block of Downing Street, Northeast. Upon their arrival, they located a juvenile male conscious and breathing with an apparent gunshot wound. DC Fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The decedent has been identified as a 13 year-old juvenile male of Northeast, Washington, DC

The decedent’s remains have been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. A determination of the cause and manner of death is pending the results of an autopsy.

The investigation is continuing.
